Overview
As an Examiner, you will conduct Compensation & Pension (C&P) Examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs. The role involves reviewing claims, performing focused assessments of claimed injuries, reviewing medical records, and rendering medical opinions based on record review and the completed exam.
CompensationBase + Monthly Incentive = $141,315–$171,315 per year.
Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive medical disability examinations, including reviewing medical history, performing physical examinations, and assessing impact of disabilities on daily life.
- Review and analyze medical records, diagnostic test results, and other pertinent documentation.
- Render objective medical opinions regarding the extent of health issues and impact on the veteran’s ability to work and perform daily activities.
- Work within the case management system to organize workload, submit findings, and correspond with the Quality Assurance Team.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, specialists, and experts as needed to obtain additional information.
- Document examination findings in clear, concise reports following VA guidelines and contractual obligations.
- Partner with Loyal Source departments to obtain resources and meet deadlines.
- Manage time effectively and confirm availability for C&P exams.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and standards related to disability examinations.
- Maintain compliance with all VA training requirements and stay updated on VA MDE program requirements.
- Safeguard confidentiality of patient information in accordance with privacy and security protocols.
- Graduate of an accredited professional nursing school and hold a valid, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in all U.S. states.
- At least 1 year of experience working as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Prior experience conducting medical disability examinations or related field preferred.
- Basic Life Support certification, including renewals.
- Previous military experience or familiarity with veteran communities preferred.
- Completion of specialized training or continuing education in medical disability evaluations, occupational health, or related areas advantageous.
- Proficiency in comprehensive medical assessments, interpreting diagnostic tests, and formulating evidence-based opinions.
- Compassionate and empathetic approach to patients.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to present findings clearly.
- Unwavering commitment to ethical standards, objectivity, and fairness.
- Detail‑oriented mindset focused on accuracy and data quality.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team‑oriented environment.
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills able to manage multiple initiatives quickly.
- Strong customer focus and sense of urgency.
- Authorized to work in the United States, meeting federal contractor requirements.
- Prolonged periods standing and sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds and have full range of motion.
- 10% travel required supporting other clinics; additional travel for training or events.
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Standard schedule. Holidays: clinics closed.
