Children’s Wisconsin has an opening for a Nurse Clinician – Dermatology to provide expert, compassionate care and care coordination for pediatric patients across clinical settings, supporting both the Milwaukee campus and Mequon location.

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8a-5p. This role allows up to 2 work‑from‑home days per month, scheduled with the supervisor based on staffing.

Location

Milwaukee campus with support for our Mequon regional location (1x/wk). Must be able to travel to Mequon.

Job Summary

This role combines direct patient care and triage responsibilities. Nurses rotate between these functions on a structured schedule. When supporting regional locations, the focus is primarily on direct care and provider support.

Dermatology‑specific responsibilities may include assisting with procedures such as biopsies, laser treatments, cryotherapy, and phototherapy; providing injection education for dermatology medications that patients or families administer at home; administering injections; collecting laboratory specimens (including urine samples and swabs); and initiating prior authorizations for medications.

The Ambulatory Nurse Clinician promotes optimal wellness by encouraging health maintenance, managing acute illness, addressing chronic disease and disability across the continuum of care through face‑to‑face or electronic interactions. Utilizes critical thinking and the nursing process to care for patients and caregivers with complex healthcare needs, integrating education, experiential knowledge and evidence‑based guidelines. Acts as a partner, advocate, support and teacher to the patient and caregivers, respecting cultural values and treatment preferences.

Facilitates continuity of care using the nursing process, inter‑professional collaboration and care coordination to support the whole child.

Essential Functions
  • Accountable for and coordinates the delivery of care within the practice setting and across health care settings to maintain continuity of care, creating a compassionate therapeutic environment by assessing the physical, functional and psychosocial well‑being of the patient and family.
  • Uses clinical reasoning to develop, implement and evaluate a plan of care that is collaborative and addresses patient and caregiver needs, resulting in optimal outcomes and risk reduction.
  • Utilizes an inter‑professional approach to communicate, educate and engage patients, caregivers and providers to implement the plan of care across settings, achieving common goals and optimal disease management.
  • Employs educational strategies that include health teaching and promotion, addressing learning needs, abilities, readiness, cultural and spiritual factors, language preferences and barriers to promote health literacy and patient self‑efficacy.
  • Communicates effectively using health literacy strategies and a variety of formats, tools, approaches and technologies to build professional relationships and deliver care across the continuum.
  • Contributes to the development and application of clinical practice guidelines, policies and procedures, evaluating alternatives with evidence and continuous quality improvement to enhance patient and caregiver experience.
  • Advocates from the perspective of patient and caregiver, resolving complex ethical issues and raising concerns to identify and address inequities in care.
  • Provides effective telehealth management and coordination, including telephone triage, to remove time and distance barriers for nursing care.
Education
  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
Experience
  • 2+ years licensed nursing experience required.
  • 2+ years pediatric nursing experience preferred.
  • Experience managing patients with chronic and complex family and health needs preferred.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Proficient pediatric assessment skills across developmental stages.
  • Ability to work with patients who have intellectual and physical disabilities in a developmentally appropriate manner.
  • Proficiency with computers and electronic medical records.
