Position: Medical Assistant (MA) I or LPN- Float Pool, North

Job Description Summary

Support the care team by performing clinical and administrative tasks vital to patient care. Medical Assistants and Licensed Practical Nurses must adhere to all relevant regulations and guidelines to ensure patient safety and confidentiality. They are expected to maintain a high level of professionalism and compassion during all interactions.

Licensure or Certifications
  • LPN:
    Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the state in which the team member practices, and Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required within 45 days unless otherwise determined.
  • MA:
    Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required within 45 days unless otherwise determined.
Degrees
  • GED or HS Equivalency Diploma.
  • LPN:
    Completion of an accredited or approved program in Practical Nursing.
  • MA:
    Completion of an accredited or approved program in Medical Assistant, or 2 years of verifiable full‑time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years.
What You’ll Do

Schedule availability should range from 7:00 am to 6:30 pm, with most shifts scheduled from 8:00 am‑4:30 pm or 8:30 am‑5:00 pm. You will also be eligible for a float pool differential of $2.00 for MA or $3.00 for LPN. Reliable transportation is required.

As a Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse, you will play a vital role in the care team—supporting providers, connecting with patients, and helping ensure a seamless, compassionate experience every day.

  • Welcome patients and support their transition into care.
  • Take and record vital signs, medical histories, and health screenings.
  • Prepare patients for exams and assist providers during procedures.
  • Administer medications and vaccines as directed.
  • Perform lab‑related tasks, including specimen collection and point‑of‑care testing.
  • Document care accurately in the electronic health record.
  • Partner with physicians, nurses, and teammates to deliver high‑quality, coordinated care.

Float pool supports a variety of specialties such as Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Women’s Health, and Integrative Medicine. You may work in clinics including:

  • Whitefish Bay – 325 E. Silver Spring Dr.
  • Midtown – 5818 W. Capitol Dr.
  • River Center – 1575 River Center Dr.
  • Third Ward – 163 N. Milwaukee St.
Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday.
  • Lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
  • Push/pull with 30 lbs of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present.
  • Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with capability to use fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures.
  • Maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines.
  • Perform physical safety interventions such as patient restraint and verbal de‑escalation, if needed.
  • May be exposed to chemical and hazardous waste as well as blood and body fluids and communicable disease; protective clothing and equipment must be worn as necessary.
  • Respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions.
  • Physical abilities testing may be required.
  • Additional department‑specific physical requirements may be identified for unique responsibilities within the department by the nurse leader.
Pay Range

$21.85 – $32.80 per hour for Medical Assistant, $24.10 – $36.15 per hour for Licensed Practical Nurse, based on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, and training.
