Job Requirements
Position Summary:
The School Nurse (SN) will provide medical care to all school students eph Academy. Maintaining immunizations, medications and an effective referral system are key components of the SN. The SN will facilitate Code Blue drills, work with the Food Services Supervisor to promote overall health, and lead the School's Wellness Plan.
Position reports to:
Principal.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required
- Current Wisconsin Nursing license required
- 1+ years School Nurse experience
- Effective and appropriate interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work with diverse ethnic and socioeconomic communities
- Current knowledge of community resources
- Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to collaborate with appropriate staff
- Proficient user of MS Office software
- Bilingual Spanish preferred
- PC, printers, phone systems, fax machine, photocopier, scanner
- Occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds (1‑33% of time)
- Rarely lifting over 25 pounds (34‑66% of time)
- Occasionally walking and standing
- Continuously sitting
- Frequently hand manipulation / dexterity when writing, using PC, and other office equipment
- Occasionally bending and reaching
Occasional exposure to infectious or communicable diseases inherent to care of ill children, occasional exposure to loud or unpleasant voices due to unpredictable behavior of children, seasonal exposure to high humidity due to temperature control of the facility, and heat and cold due to the internal and external environment.
Essential Job Functions / Duties- Extends excellent service to all families, staff, and internal and external customers.
- Establishes appropriate relationships with families, children, staff, and the public to ensure a safe environment that protects the families and children rights.
- Models behaviors that foster a “Child-centered” philosophy.
- Maintain accurate immunization files for all school students.
- Provide medical care to all school students as needed.
- Maintain effective referral systems.
- Communicate effectively with all staff.
- Respond to first aid and other medical concerns as they arise.
- Administer, log, and track medications, while storing them in a secure place.
- Lead the School’s Wellness Plan.
- Work with Food Services Supervisor to promote healthy choices and habits.
- Schedule and facilitate Code Blue drills.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by Principal.
