This position is in a fast-paced surgical setting. The facility is a Level III Trauma Center with a Magnet Designation. The surgical team operates with an average of 10 cases per day. The patient types include a range of cardiovascular and thoracic surgeries such as CABG, TAVR, valve replacements, and heart transplants. The roles within the surgical team consist of two RN's per case.
One RN serves as the Circulator and the other as the Med RN. Travelers will primarily serve in the Circulator role. The patient ratios are 1:1. Required skills include a strong background in CVOR procedures across all specialties. Experience in a high-pressure environment is essential. For Anesthesia Technicians, the ability to operate specific machines for blood gasses, TEE's, and ultrasounds is necessary.
No floating is required for the RN position. There is a structured team support system in place, including a department supervisor and a manager. Weekend support includes a small weekend staffing program shared among different surgical departments. Charting and equipment used within the facility includes EPIC, Alaris, Pyxis, and Davinci XI. Orientation for new hires lasts for 2 weeks. Scheduling includes specific start times for different roles.
On-call duties include being available once a month for a 24-hour weekend rotation. End-of-shift call is up to once a week with a 30-minute response time required. There are no sleep rooms available for staff. Holiday expectations require staff to be on-call as needed. All workers, including travelers, are subject to fatigue policies that limit work hours. Scrub colors will be provided.
Documentation of patient pain levels before and after medication administration is critical. The facility provides free cafeteria services onsite, including a coffee shop for staff.
