Job Overview
Department:
Aurora St. Lukes Medical Center – Cardiac Services. Status:
Full‑time. Hours per week: 40. Pay range: $38.20 – $57.30 per hour. Schedule options include 8‑hour shifts starting at 6:00, 7:00, 8:00, or 10:00 Monday to Friday, or 10‑hour shifts starting at 6:00, 7:00, or 8:50 for four weekdays. Call requirement every 13 weeks for weekend coverage. On‑call hours begin Saturday 6:00 and end Monday 6:00. Holiday requirements apply.
- Use the nursing process to assess patient needs, plan and implement individualized interventions, evaluate the plan of care, and involve patients and families in care planning.
- Anticipate and recognize significant changes in patients’ condition and status; provide ongoing assessment and take appropriate action when changes occur.
- Alter the plan of care as needed, mobilize resources, and collaborate with health‑care team members to coordinate patient‑centered care.
- Implement strategies to reduce patient risk and increase safety.
- Assess patient and family readiness to learn and individualize teaching approaches; develop strategies to meet learning needs.
- Coordinate discharge plans using an interdisciplinary approach; apply evidence‑based practice and consistently incorporate nursing and regulatory standards.
- Provide ongoing evaluation of patient, team, and unit outcomes and take appropriate action when changes are needed.
- Support shared governance activities and initiatives to improve processes and patient outcomes.
- Demonstrate effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution skills; promote collaboration and assume a leadership role, delegating appropriately to unlicensed personnel.
- Promote a culture of safety by identifying threats, intervening to prevent harm, and reporting safety events and near misses promptly.
- Participate in quality and process‑improvement initiatives, professional activities, and continuous education; complete annual competencies on time.
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state of practice.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association.
- Completion of an accredited or approved nursing program.
- Typically requires one year of clinical nursing experience.
- Ability to provide holistic patient care and view clinical situations from a patient and family focus.
- Recognize situational changes that require unplanned interventions and respond with confidence, timeliness, and flexibility.
- Proficient computer skills and use of electronic medical records.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
- Human‑relation skills and ability to build rapport with patients, team members, and physicians.
- Initiative, collaboration, independent decision‑making, organization, prioritization, and problem‑solving.
- Time‑management and multitasking skills in a frequently interrupted environment.
- Coordination, collaboration, delegation, and team‑building skills.
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, and reach frequently.
- Lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist; 20 lbs. over the head; carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance; push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
- Perform sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
- Repeated use of foot pedals on carts or machines.
- Potential exposure to chemical and hazardous waste, blood, body fluids, and communicable disease; protective clothing and equipment required.
- Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with fine hand‑manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures.
- Base compensation within the listed pay range and premium pay for shifts, on‑call, and incentive pay.
