Position: Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) - Surgical Oncology-Endocrine - Inpatient-Procedural

Position Summary:

The Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant toprovide specialty medical care within the Surgical Oncology-Endocrine, Inpatient Service . This position is located in Milwaukee, WI at Froedtert Hospital. The Advanced Practice Provider(APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.

Position

Highlights:
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring surgical intervention in inpatient environment as a member of the Surgical Oncology team. Treats adult endocrine patients and pancreatic patients with both malignant and benign diseases.

  • Writes accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and/or admission and transfer orders.

  • Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information.

  • Coordinate discharge planning (summary, medication reconciliation, home health and other arrangements)

  • Privileged to assist and primarily perform procedures beyond core as identified by the Surgical Oncology services.

  • Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.

  • Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Join Commission.

  • Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.

  • Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.

  • Collaborates with other consultative care teams and primary team in the management of malignant and benign diseases.

  • Participates in preoperative and postoperative patient care.

  • Educates patients and families on preoperative and postoperative care.

  • Work Locations:
    Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital,Froedtert Cancer Center, Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital, Menomonee Falls Cancer Center

  • New hire will report to the Surgical Oncology,APP Manager and Surgical Oncology Endocrine Service Line leader.

Schedule:
  • Scheduling flexibility required to provide for an appropriate level of patient care coverage.

  • Monday - Friday

  • Daily schedule will depend on the needs of the service; typical hours would be 7am-3pm.

  • No call, no weekends or holidays.

  • 1.0 FTE

  • Salaried (exempt)

Qualifications:

Preferred Experience:
  • Oncology, Surgical Nursing or critical care experience of 5 years or more preferred

  • Open to new grads with nursing experience

Minimum Education:
  • Advanced Practice Nurse:Master's Degree or higher in Nursing from a nationally accredited organization.

  • Physician Assistant:Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC-PA-accredited organization.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Advanced Practice Nurse:Master's Degree or higher in Nursing from a nationally accredited organization.

  • Physician Assistant:Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC-PA-accredited organization.

  • Advanced Practice Nurse/ Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner

    • Wisconsin RN License

    • Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License

    • Certification Requirements:

      • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

    • DEA registration

    • Nurse Practitioner Certification from a nationally accredited professional nursing organization

      • Acute care nurse practitioner preferred.

      • Will consider FNP or adult care.

  • Physician Assistant

    • Wisconsin Physician Assistant License

    • Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants(NCCPA)

    • Certification Requirements:

      • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

    • DEA registration
