Core Clinical Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive device interrogations and troubleshooting for pacemakers, ICDs, CRT devices, and implantable loop recorders in inpatient, outpatient, OR, and procedural settings.
  • Independently reprogram cardiac devices within scope and in collaboration with Electrophysiology (EP) physicians and Advanced Practice Providers.
  • Monitor and assess device function during MRI procedures, applying appropriate MRI‑conditional programming, observing patients throughout the scan, and restoring baseline programming afterward.
  • Provide direct patient care by assessing device performance, identifying abnormalities, and initiating appropriate interventions or escalations.
  • Conduct and interpret remote device interrogations for ED patients and other hospital departments, ensuring timely response to alerts and transmissions.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration & Workflow Management
  • Collaborate closely with EP physicians, nurse practitioners, cardiologists, anesthesiology teams, and surgical staff to support safe and efficient patient care.
  • Share on‑call responsibilities with team members for urgent device support, including CVOR cases and emergent reprogramming needs specific to CVOR procedures.
  • Coordinate device‑related workflow across hospital units, managing device work queues and supporting care for hospitalized patients with implanted cardiac devices.
  • Participate in structural heart procedures (e.g., TAVR) by providing device‑related support such as burst pacing or procedural reprogramming.
Technical Expertise & Device Management
  • Demonstrate proficiency in operating and navigating multiple cardiac device manufacturers’ programmers, systems, and remote monitoring platforms.
  • Evaluate device algorithms, diagnostic trends, and therapy delivery to inform clinical decision‑making.
  • Troubleshoot device malfunctions, perform detailed assessments, and communicate findings clearly to EP providers.
  • Apply specialized device programming adjustments to meet individual patient needs, including comfort settings and modifications for hospice or end‑of‑life care.
Documentation & Compliance
  • Accurately document all device interrogations, programming changes, diagnostics, and clinical assessments in the electronic medical record (Epic).
  • Complete MRI safety screenings for patients with implanted devices according to current protocols and institutional guidelines.
  • Ensure all device‑related care follows established clinical pathways, manufacturer guidance, and regulatory requirements.
Patient & Family Education
