Responsibilities

  • Leading heritage and cultural resource projects from planning through execution
  • Directing field teams on archaeological surveys and excavations
  • Assisting with development and scoping of medium‑size projects
  • Interacting with clients, landowners, contractors, and stakeholders
  • Coordinating and working with tribal monitors and representatives
  • Supporting client compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Preparing and contributing to cultural resources reports, data entry, impact assessments, and permitting activities
  • Conducting professional archaeological investigations, inspections, studies, and surveys
  • Interfacing with regulatory and historic preservation agencies in a confident, professional manner
  • Staying current with archaeological methods, procedures, and best practices
  • Exercising responsible and ethical decision‐making in accordance with WSP’s Code of Conduct
  • Performing additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Historic Preservation, or a related field
  • 3–5 years of post‑graduate experience in Section 106/110 compliance and CRM archaeology, preferably in the Midwest and Southeast
  • Strong understanding of the regulatory framework for heritage resource management compliance
  • Excellent technical writing and reporting skills
  • Demonstrated expertise in the archaeology of the Midwest and Southeast regions
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with both technical and non‑technical audiences
  • Ability to work independently while providing guidance and leadership to junior staff
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and QA/QC standards
  • Proven critical thinking and problem‑solving skills
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP health, safety, and conduct policies
  • Flexibility to work schedules aligned with project needs, including occasional extended workweeks
  • Ability to travel occasionally based on project requirements
Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Specialized expertise supported by publications, presentations, or demonstrated project experience in the Central United States
  • Active participation in professional archaeological or historic preservation organizations
