Clinical Research
Summary
Supervise and independently perform studies to advance the goals of the principal investigator's research projects. Perform experiments, analyze data and compile results and monitor quality control processes to ensure integrity of research. Research Scientist assisting with clinical research projects in the fields of autonomic neuroscience, disorders of gut-brain interaction, and non-invasive neuromodulation therapies under the supervision and mentoring of PI.
The Research Scientist will join an expanding, NIH-funded and nationally recognized research team performing cutting‑edge clinical research studies in the field of pediatric Neurogastroenterology. The Research Scientist will be able to work independently to use fundamental and advanced concepts, practices, and procedures of particular field of specialization to perform more complex scientific research. These include clinical and physiologic data collection and organization, assisting with analysis of cardiovascular metrics, imaging data, clinical and behavioral data as well as manuscript writing.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Design and execute complex research procedures.
- Develop and perform routine and complex protocols for research programs. Perform clinical trial procedures and develop routine and complex clinical trial design for implementation in children with disorders of gut brain interaction, dysautonomia and gastric motility disorders.
- Coordinate research study activities; lead and manage projects.
- Assist in developing, implementing and monitoring quality activities.
- Collaborate with principal investigator in determining study design and performing statistical analyses.
- Perform and develop routine and complex computational and database methods for implementation. May serve as primary statistician for specific datasets.
- Develop new methodologies for lab procedures for data analysis, including but not limited to physiologic data processing and analysis (heart rate variability and other cardiovascular metrics, fNIRS, gastric MR imaging using semi‑automated software etc.).
- Maintain supplies, may negotiate with vendors, track purchase orders.
- Maintain equipment, perform/supervise repairs and update computer hardware and software.
- Teach and train new members of the lab in relevant techniques and analytical procedures.
- Participate in meetings with principal investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data, develop methodologies, evaluate lab procedures.
- May oversee the work of laboratory personnel including training and development as well as daily work direction/delegation/prioritizing.
- Perform library searches and prepare materials for publications and grants.
- Complete training in analysis of fNIRS and EKG data, including artifact checking and data cleaning.
- Assist with development of new methodologies for clinical research procedures such as implementing novel tests of gastric motor function (e.g. gastric MRI, high‑resolution electrogastrography etc.).
- Assist with manuscript and grant writing.
- Assist with data collection and organization as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.
- Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.
