The Research Technician (Evans Lab) will perform experiments as part of a pre‑clinical neuroscience team focused on understanding how light modulates the brain, gather and analyze experimental data, help organise inventory, and train and supervise student volunteers.

- Perform lab work related to the execution of ongoing research projects, including reagent preparation, molecular/cellular/behavioral/physiological assays, small animal surgery. Interpret data, troubleshoot technical problems, and keep accurate records of experimental procedures.
- Perform animal colony management and execute day‑to‑day operations in transgenic rodent colonies, including husbandry, handling, breeding, genotyping, weaning, euthanasia, record keeping, and coordination with other lab members.
- Analyze experimental data, prepare figures to visualise results, and communicate findings during lab meetings.
- Maintain regulatory compliance and licensure for federal, state, and university requirements regarding animals, biohazardous materials, and controlled substances for research.
- Train and oversee student volunteers and lab personnel with varying research experience levels.
- Complete laboratory‑related purchases using the Marquette University purchasing system and maintain proper inventory of research‑related items.
Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, neuroscience, or biomedical science.
- Minimum one year of experience in a similar position.
- Ability to work well in a team, demonstrate initiative, excellent time‑management skills, technical proficiency, and effective communication.
- Ability to conduct preclinical research with rodents.
Skills and Abilities
- Prior knowledge of biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, anatomy, physiology, and/or small‑animal husbandry.
- Hands‑on experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, or related discipline.
- Research experience with transgenic animal models, genotyping, PCR, Western blot, cell culture.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evening or weekend work.
- Commitment of 1–2 years preferred.
