Job Summary:

Provides technical expertise to fundamental and/or applied scientific research under the direction of senior research personnel or faculty. The Researcher I supports an active, grant-funded laboratory investigating the genetics and epigenetics of ovarian cancer by performing patient-derived organoid-based assays, Bio Bank sample processing, immortalized cell culture maintenance, and general experimental research support. This position also assumes key lab management responsibilities, including procurement of laboratory supplies and maintenance of biosafety protocols and compliance documentation.

The Researcher I works independently to ensure continuity of daily laboratory operations and contributes directly to the advancement of NIH- and DOD-funded research objectives. This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Identifies concerns and recommends solutions to leadership
  • Assists with the development of research methodologies and procedures
  • Trains individuals and groups on equipment operations, research protocols, and techniques within a specialized laboratory or research area
  • Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, and disseminates information to appropriate entities and assists with publications
  • Serves as the point of contact for the Lang lab
  • Collects and analyzes basic research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures
  • Assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding

School of Medicine and Public Health, Center for Precision Medicine, Jessica Lang Lab The Center for Precision Medicine (CPM) mission is to accelerate research, clinical, and educational activities in precision health to expand tools and data sources that enhance our ability to anticipate, diagnose, and manage disease across the lifespan. We have 37-member faculty that include basic science, computational, and translational research groups.

We are in the Wisconsin Institute for Medical Research (WIMR) complex within the UW School of Medicine and Public Health.

Compensation

Compensation:
The starting salary for the position is $50,000 annually; but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Required Qualifications
  • Experience with patient-derived organoid culture and organoid-based assay development
  • Proficiency in immortalized cell culture techniques and drug dose-response assays
  • Experience with biobank protocols and human biospecimen handling
  • Knowledge of ovarian cancer biology or cancer genetics/epigenetics research
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with laboratory supply procurement and inventory management
  • Familiarity with laboratory biosafety and compliance documentation
  • Experience supervising or mentoring undergraduate researchers
  • Experience working independently and managing multiple experimental timelines simultaneously
