As a Research Technician in the Evans Lab, you will perform experiments to understand how light modulates the brain, gather and analyze experimental data, organize inventory, and train and supervise student volunteers.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform lab work related to ongoing research projects, including reagent preparation, molecular/cellular/behavioral/physiological assays, and small animal surgery. Interpret data, troubleshoot technical problems, and keep accurate records of experimental procedures.
  • Perform animal colony management and day‑to‑day operations in transgenic rodent colonies: husbandry, handling, breeding, genotyping, weaning, euthanasia, and record‑keeping. Coordinate with lab members to identify needed cohorts, design experiments, and maintain high‑quality research.
  • Analyze experimental data, prepare figures, and communicate findings during lab meetings.
  • Maintain regulatory compliance and licensure for federal, state, and university requirements related to the use of animals, biohazardous materials, and controlled substances.
  • Train and oversee student volunteers and lab personnel at various research experience levels.
  • Complete laboratory‑related purchases using the Marquette University purchasing system and maintain proper inventory of research items.
Required Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Neuroscience, or Biomedical Science.
  • Minimum one year of experience in a similar position.
  • Strong teamwork skills, initiative, excellent time‑management, technical proficiency, and effective communication.
  • Ability to conduct preclinical research with rodents.
Preferred Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Prior knowledge of biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, anatomy, physiology, and/or small‑animal husbandry.
  • Hands‑on experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, or related discipline.
  • Research experience with transgenic animal models, genotyping, PCR, Western blot, and cell culture.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends.
  • Commitment of 1‑2 years preferred.
