Job Summary:
Responsible for providing support to Public Safety operations at CW facilities. Duties may include, but are not limited to, patrolling assigned areas of facilities and grounds, responding to emergent situations and calls for service, performing inspection tours and investigating incidents, general office or record keeping tasks, verbally de‑escalating and, if needed, physically restraining patients or disruptive individuals, performing weapon screening services to prevent weapons and other prohibited property from entering Children’s property, securing property/evidence as needed, and liaising with MRMC Campus Public Safety/Security departments and local, state and federal law enforcement.
Essential Functions
- Patrols (by foot and vehicle) assigned areas of facilities and grounds according to an established schedule and investigates unusual occurrences. Performs parking enforcement duties, including operating parking equipment and greeting, welcoming and directing customers.
- Investigates and writes incident reports on security‑related incidents including crimes on the property, injuries on the property, loss of hospital property, and related events. Obtains and processes evidence and interviews victims, witnesses, and suspects.
- Assists Public Safety Dispatchers in the Communication Center, dispatches appropriate personnel, answers hospital emergency lines, monitors surveillance and alarm systems, and handles intercom/elevator calls for assistance. Performs parking enforcement duties as above.
- Responds to emergency situations, including crowd control, disturbance resolution, verbal and physical intervention, firefighting duties, medical responses, and management of disruptive individuals; may have appearances in court, hearings, or chambers as requested.
- Performs Weapon Screening at designated locations to prevent weapons and prohibited property from entering facilities. Secures property/evidence and liaises with local law enforcement. Conducts security inspection tours and notifies appropriate personnel of problems.
- Questions or detains suspicious individuals, restrains disorderly or potentially dangerous individuals as necessary to prevent imminent harm to self or others.
- Badge and screen visitors, determine guest destinations, provide way finding, escort employees/visitors/patients, and assist with traffic control and Welcome Center responsibilities.
- Maintains current knowledge of CW policies and department standards through independent review of communications and attendance at relevant meetings.
- High School diploma or GED/HSED required
- Post‑high school coursework in criminal justice or related field preferred
- 1+ year of customer service experience required
- 1+ year of experience as a uniformed security officer in healthcare or related settings preferred
- 1+ year of weapon screening experience preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Valid driving record and ability to be insured by CHHS carrier
- Ability to complete organizational and department training processes
- Ability to read and write for incident reports and recordkeeping
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Intermediate computer skills (PC software, Microsoft Word/Excel/Access, Epic, CAD, Incident Reporting, Surveillance Systems, Weapon Screening Technology, etc.)
