Community Safety Host

Hope Street is the Greenhouse for People on 26th and Capitol. We give broken men, women and children a safe place to grow. We cultivate hope and build community as we live out the ministry of Jesus on the northside of Milwaukee. Hope Street provides housing and healing to men, women, and children whose lives have been profoundly affected by the toxic environment they grew up in, their own choices, or drug and alcohol abuse.

The Community Safety Host will be responsible for maintaining a safe and positive building at Shechem at Hope Street. The Community Safety Host will ensure members are maintaining membership guidelines. Safety Host is responsible for maintaining safety protocols and leading the de-escalation efforts during times of conflict. The Community Safety Host values community building and is willing to develop trusted relationships within our community.

This is an on site position Monday
- Friday at Shechem at Hope Street. An optimal candidate will have security experience, with community work preferred. The optimal candidate to work with our adult population has 15 years of experience in the workforce. Part time candidates, with the desire to work 3-6pm, only require 5 years of experience in the workforce.

• Collaborate with Shechem staff team
• Complete tasks when asked or necessary
• Help keep the building clean
• Stay up to date on emails and assignments
• Maintain Hope Street culture and vision

• Maintain feelings of community safety
• Secure the building and the people in it by patrolling property; monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting building
• Prevent losses and damage by reporting irregularities, informing members of policy and procedures
• Monitoring who is coming in and out of the building
• Complete incident reports by recording observations, information, occurrences and surveillance activities
• Maintaining safety for all parties by ensuring Shechem is free from drugs and alcohol, weapons
• Respond to emergencies to provide necessary assistance to members, volunteers and staff
• Protect Shechem's assets relative to theft, assault, fire, injury and other safety issues
• Follow procedures for various initiatives, including fire prevention, property patrol, traffic control and accident investigations
• Be knowledgeable about what do in case of emergency

• Be helpful, point people in the right direction
• Manage conflict when it arises
• Maintain trust with members, be patient, and be approachable
• Ensure members are maintaining membership guidelines
• Check in table: sign in guests
• Meet members in their place of need

We are hiring 2-3 people for this position, with the hope of having a security presence between 12-6pm Monday-Thursday and 12-5pm on Friday. Positions are part time, with the possibility of one full time position. This position is paid hourly at $20/hr.
