Job Summary
Serve in a leadership role overseeing security staff across Children’s Wisconsin facilities, grounds and personnel. Performs responsibilities of a Security Officer, leading and directing staff, training, scheduling, incident management and collaboration with health and law‑enforcement agencies.
Essential Functions- Lead, coordinate and provide oversight of security personnel engaged in patrolling and securing CW facilities and grounds.
- Plan and prepare work schedules and priorities to provide adequate security coverage.
- Assign personnel to posts or patrol and reassign in response to schedules, emergencies or incidents.
- Orient, train, and provide performance feedback; assist in mediation of conflicts among security staff.
- Assist Security Dispatchers, dispatch appropriate personnel, answer hospital emergency line (88) and direct personnel appropriately.
- Monitor cameras and alarm systems, answer intercom and elevator calls promptly and professionally.
- Coordinate shift scheduling with Security Leaders, ensuring at least one Security Leader on duty at all times.
- Perform parking enforcement duties: operate parking equipment, greet, welcome and direct customers.
- Patrol assigned areas by foot or vehicle, investigate unusual occurrences.
- Investigate and write incident reports on a wide variety of security‑related incidents; obtain evidence and interview victims, witnesses and suspects.
- Provide liaison functions between Children’s Wisconsin and local, state and federal law‑enforcement agencies.
- Serve as department leader and liaison upon activation of the campus MRMC‑ECP; enact safety measures per CW or MRMC‑ECP plans.
- Participate in emergency exercises.
- Provide intervention strategies and collaborative support with medical disciplines for patient, visitor and staff safety.
- Participate in patient care meetings addressing safety matters.
- Read and interpret legal documents detailing court actions and orders related to child care.
- Assess and define safety plans per legal and organizational directives.
- Serve as department liaison on organizational committees affecting care and safety.
- Represent department upon activation of Hospital Command Center; liaise with leadership during incidents.
- Provide input to Security Supervisors regarding staff performance.
- Respond to emergencies: crowd control, dispute resolution, verbal/physical intervention, firefighting, medical support and court appearances as needed.
- Conduct security inspection tours and notify personnel of issues.
- Question or detain suspicious individuals or violators; restrain disorderly individuals according to training standards.
- Direct or escort employees, staff, visitors, patients and manage vehicle traffic as needed.
- Provide basic hospital information services; assigned to Welcome Center as required.
- Perform special assignments and projects; assist in training program development and instruction.
- Work varying shifts and extended hours to maintain staffing coverage.
- High School graduate, GED, or HSED with ability to read and write to complete incident reports and record‑keeping.
- Post‑high school coursework in criminal justice or equivalent preferred.
- At least three years of previous security experience.
- Experience as a uniformed security officer in a leadership role in healthcare, corporate, law‑enforcement or military services preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Currently certified or complete departmental training in Defensive and Arrest Tactics (DAAT) or Defensive Tactics for Security (DTS) within 3 months of hire.
- Complete IAHSS Advanced Certification within 90 days of hire.
- Successfully complete all required introductory and annual competency training.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Intermediate computer skills: PC software, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, CAD, Incident Reporting, Surveillance Systems.
- Analytical skills to inspect hospital areas, ensure security, and prepare incident reports.
- BLS‑Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council) required.
- Driver’s License – State of Wisconsin required.
