Job Summary
Responsible for providing support to Public Safety operations at Children’s Wisconsin facilities. Duties may include patrol assigned areas of facilities and grounds, respond to emergent situations, conduct inspection tours, investigate incidents, administer general office or record‑keeping tasks, verbally de‑escalate and restrain patients or disruptive individuals, perform weapon screening services, secure property/evidence, and liaise with campus public safety and local, state, and federal law enforcement.
Responsibilities- Patrol assigned areas of facilities and grounds by foot and vehicle according to established schedule, and investigate unusual occurrences.
- Perform parking enforcement duties, operate parking equipment, and greet and direct customers.
- Investigate and write incident reports on security‑related incidents, obtain and process evidence, and interview victims, witnesses, and suspects.
- Assist Public Safety Dispatchers in the Communication Center, dispatch personnel as needed, answer emergency lines, monitor surveillance and alarm systems, and respond to intercom and elevator calls.
- Respond to various emergency situations, including crowd control, disturbance resolution, verbal and physical intervention, firefighting, medical care for combative or disruptive patients, and other similar activities.
- Perform weapon screening at designated locations, secure property or evidence, and liaise with campus public safety and law enforcement.
- Question or detain suspicious individuals or criminal violators and restrain disorderly, combative, or injurious individuals according to training standards.
- Badge and screen visitors, determine destinations, provide way finding, escort employees, visitors, clients, and patients, and perform traffic control as needed.
- Maintain current knowledge of Children’s Wisconsin policies, procedures, and Standards of Work through regular review of communications and meetings.
- High School graduate, GED, or HSED required.
- Post‑high‑school coursework in criminal justice or a related field preferred.
- 1+ years of previous customer service experience required.
- 1+ years of experience as a uniformed security officer in healthcare security, public safety, corporate security, law enforcement, or military service preferred.
- 1+ years of experience performing weapon screening preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Acceptable driving record; ability to be insured by the Children’s Wisconsin carrier.
- Ability to complete all required organizational and departmental training and competency programs.
- Reading and writing skills for reviewing and completing incident reports and record‑keeping.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Intermediate computer skills to use current and future equipment and systems (PC software, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Epic, CAD, Incident Reporting, Surveillance Systems, Weapon Screening Technology).
- Analytical skills for inspecting, responding, and managing emergent situations and preparing security incident reports and missing property reports.
- Ability to complete and maintain physical and verbal intervention and control training, use typical security equipment, and apply clinical violent restraint devices.
- Ability to complete and maintain testing requirements under the Physical Capacity Exam (PCE).
- Capacity to respond to emergent situations in a professional and calm manner while maintaining effective communication.
- Marcus Crisis Prevention Program Certification (MCPP) required within one year of hire.
- Marcus Autism Center certification required within one year of hire.
- BLS – Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (American Heart Association / American Red Cross / National Safety Council) required within 90 days.
- Driver’s License – State of Wisconsin required.
