Position Details

Full time, 40 hours per week.

Schedule:

7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday‑Friday with rotation weekends and holidays. Pay range: $21.85 – $32.80 per hour. Benefits eligible:

Major Responsibilities
  • Provide security services with a customer‑service approach, emphasizing professionalism, fairness, and compassion.
  • Present a professional, approachable, and service‑oriented appearance; remain alert, observant, and ethical.
  • Comply with and enforce all safety and security rules, maintaining department uniform and equipment.
  • Perform routine interior and exterior patrols, inspections, and audits to identify vulnerabilities, hazards, and fire conditions.
  • Manage patient valuables, conduct thorough contraband searches, and assist team members, patients, and visitors.
  • Control traffic, monitor visitor conduct, and confront unauthorized persons for questioning.
  • Prevent, respond to, and investigate workplace violence; respond to service calls involving combative or threatening individuals.
  • Act as a primary resource for de‑escalation, using force when necessary, including conducted electrical weapon and handcuffing.
  • Plan, practice, and respond to emergencies such as lost or abducted infants/children, fire, and active threats.
  • Respond immediately to emergency and crisis situations; intervene physically when training allows to prevent injury.
  • Investigate incidents on property and complete accurate reports, escalating complaints to appropriate leaders.
  • Perform liaison rounding duties to partner with all departments, delivering security awareness education.
  • Liaise with federal, state, and local law enforcement and first responder agencies; coordinate briefs for prisoner patient guards.
  • Maintain current training standards in communications, de‑escalation, hemorrhage control, CPR, restraints, and conducted energy weapon use.
  • Assist with exterior traffic and crowd control, parking enforcement, and vehicular assistance.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required
  • Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) from the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS), obtained within two years of hire.
  • Valid driver’s license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles.
  • For Illinois: completion of State of Illinois 20‑hour Basic Security Officer course and Firearm Owners Identification Card (FOID).
  • For Wisconsin:
    Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license issued by the Department of Justice (DOJ).
  • Certified in Conducted Energy Weapon (e.g., TASER) use within 90 days of hire and periodically thereafter.
Education Required

High school graduate or GED.

Experience Required

Typically requires 1 year of experience in security, related public safety, or customer service, including responding to emergent situations and resolving risks to patients, visitors, teammates, and property.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
  • Must sit, stand, walk, and drive throughout the workday; lift up to 35 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to push/pull with 35 lbs. of force.
  • 20/20 vision or correctable to 20/20 with lenses.
  • Exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, and radiation hazards; protective clothing required.
  • Operate necessary equipment.
  • Frequent exposure to aggressive behavior and emotionally charged situations.
  • Handle personal stress and possible violence.
  • Physically fit to walk all areas, restrain individuals, and assist in lifting patients of all sizes.
