We are looking to staff a number of full‑and part‑time Public Safety Officer openings on first, second and third shift in Milwaukee.
Position SummaryResponsible for providing support to Public Safety operations at CW facilities. Duties may include, but not limited to, any or all of the following: patrol assigned areas of facilities and grounds and respond to emergent situations and calls for service; perform inspection tours and investigate incidents, as well as general office or record‑keeping tasks; verbally de‑escalate and if needed, physically restrain patients or disruptive individuals;
perform Weapon Screening services to prevent weapons and other prohibited property from entering Children’s property; secure property/evidence as needed/directed; liaison with MRMC Campus Public Safety/Security departments and local, state and federal law enforcement.
- Patrol facilities and grounds by foot, investigate unusual occurrences, perform parking enforcement duties, operate parking equipment, greet and direct customers.
- Investigate incidents, write incident reports, obtain evidence, interview victims, witnesses and suspects, notify appropriate personnel.
- Assist Public Safety Dispatchers, dispatch personnel, answer hospital emergency line (88), monitor cameras and alarm systems, answer intercom and elevator calls.
- Respond to emergency situations such as crowd control, disturbance resolution, verbal and physical intervention, firefighting, combative patients; may appear in court or hearings as requested.
- Perform Weapon Screening services, secure property/evidence, liaison with security departments, conduct security inspection tours, notify issues.
- Screen visitors, determine destination and transportation needs, provide way finding, escort employees, staff, visitors, clients and patients.
- Maintain current knowledge of policies and procedures through review of internal communication.
- High School graduate, GED, or HSED.
- 1+ year experience in customer service.
- Post‑high‑school coursework in criminal justice or equivalent field of study.
- 1+ years experience as a uniformed security officer in healthcare security, public safety, corporate security, law enforcement, and/or military service.
- 1+ years experience performing weapon screening.
- BLS‑Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider – American Heart Association / American Red Cross / National Safety Council required within 90 days of hire.
Skills and Abilities
- Successfully complete all required introductory and annual competency training.
- Ability to read and write; review and complete incident reports and record‑keeping activities.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to interact with employees, staff, visitors under stressful situations.
- Intermediate computer skills: use PC software (Word, Excel, Access), Epic hospital software, CAD, Incident Reporting, Surveillance Systems, Weapon Screening.
- Analytical skills to inspect, respond, and manage emergent situations; prepare incident and missing property reports.
- Complete and maintain the Physical Capacity Exam (PCE) requirements.
- Maintain training in physical/verbal intervention, control techniques, typical security equipment (baton, handcuffs, etc.), and clinical violent restraint devices.
- Complete and maintain Marcus Crisis Prevention Program (MCPP) training.
