Year-Round School Safety Officer, PTPart Time Technical Milwaukee, WI, US
Salary Range: $32.19 To $37.00 Annually
General Summary
:
Safety officers are frequently the first contact for visitors on campus, and must exhibit outstanding customer service, safety, and security skills. The safety officers are armed, former law enforcement officers who are responsible for the overall safety of the School.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Fulfill duties associated with the School’s safety plan to comply with the School’s strategic goals to maximize the safety of students, staff, and the overall community.
- Maintain an orderly post while fostering a positive work environment.
- Monitor and control visitor access to campus facilities as assigned.
- Support the safety of the USM community.
- Represent USM at various events, extra-curricular activities, sporting events, etc. to establish goodwill and resolve and respond to issues.
- Serve as a resource in response to security, safety concerns or questions.
- Direct traffic and manage pedestrian crosswalks when needed.
- Exercise dignity and respect when interacting with people at all times.
- Respond to crises when appropriate.
- Collaborate with internal and external personnel in practicing a standardized response to critical incidents.
- Actively attend and participate in the training programs to support safety, accident prevention, and other relevant topics.
- Monitor alarms, cameras, and security equipment to ensure everything is functioning properly.
- Interact and maintain collaborative relationships with local and state law enforcement and safety agencies.
- Assist the administration in student supervision.
- Manage resources efficiently.
- Work collaboratively and effectively with the USM community at large.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in law enforcement policies and procedures, crime prevention, investigations, public safety training, and operations preferred
- Ability to de-escalate confrontations
- Ability to make recommendations on various topics
- Ability to exercise strict confidentiality in handling sensitive information
- Ability to manage critical incidents successfully
- Ability to successfully work and interact professionally with a diverse population
- Ability to learn about the USM culture and community served
- Strong interpersonal skills; capable of using tact and diplomacy in dealing with others
- High level of maturity, confidentiality, assertiveness and independence
- Capable of competently operating technology
- Ability to work flexible shifts and variable scheduling based on school needs
Education and Experience:
- Possession of a valid HR-218 L.E.O.S.A. certification, or must be able to successfully attain the certification within 60 days of hire
- Former law enforcement officer experience required
- Must be able to pass pre-employment tests including physical agility, drug, and psychological evaluation tests
