Job Summary
Milwaukee Public Schools is actively recruiting qualified candidates for the Sheet Metal Worker (Journeyman) position.
A Sheet Metal Worker (Journeyman) installs, repairs, replaces, inspects, tests, adjusts, maintains, modifies, etc. various HVAC systems and internal/external partitions, equipment structural and ornamental systems and components; functions as a Project Management Assistant; navigates and monitors Computerized Maintenance Management Software system; and operates and maintains equipment related to the trade.

- Journeyman Sheet Metal Worker license/certificate (Journeyman) issued by the State of WI.
The Sheet Metal Worker (Journeyman) hourly wage is $58.03 per hour.

THE SELECTION PROCESS: evaluations will be job-related and will consist of one or more of the following: education and experience evaluation; written, oral or performance tests; or other assessment methods. The Office of Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to oral and performance examinations. Oral examinations may include written exercises. Selection process component weights will be determined by further analysis of the job

Certifications and Licensing Requirements:
- Silica Hazard Awareness Training within first month of appointment. Note 1,2
- Scaffolding User and Erector Training Certification within 6 months of appointment. Note 1,2
- Fall Protection Competent Person Training Certification within 6 months of appointment. Notes 1,2
- Confined Space Entry training within 6 months of appointment. Note 1,2
- Completion of DFMS Maintenance and Repair Staff New Hire EHS Orientation Training Note 2
Note 2 Training modules assigned on the MPS Learning Management System (LMS).
Working Environment:
- Ability to work mandatory overtime hours as required, whether given advanced notice, or called-in to perform emergency duties
- Exposure to dust, dirt, general construction debris, hazardous materials, etc. that may require the use of respiratory protection.
- Exposure to loud noises that may require the use of hearing protection devices.
- Exposure to confined spaces that may require special rigging, harnessing, etc.
- Work at heights on various types of support equipment, including scaffolding, swing stages, bosons chairs, extension and step ladders, needle beam scaffolding, etc. that may require special harnessing.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures.
- Essential physical requirements, such as climbing, standing, or stooping.
- Exposure to work environments as previously indicated
- Ability to climb and work at heights at or above 70 feet in all weather conditions
- Ability to move objects weighing 100 lbs. or more
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
Eligible applicants MUST have the following:
Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Working knowledge of computer applications including MS Office software
- Five (5) years of experience at a journeyman sheet metal work level.
- One (1) year of experience in operating within a Computerized Maintenance Management Software System (preferably Asset
WORKS). - Experience in testing, adjusting and balancing (TAB) the air handling side HVAC systems and equipment is preferred.
- Journeyman Sheet Metal Certification/License issued by the State of WI at time of appointment and throughout employment required.
- Valid State of Wisconsin Motor Vehicle operator's license and availability of properly insured personal vehicle at time of appointment and throughout employment.
- NEBB or AABC Certification preferred.
- Install, repair, replace, inspect, maintain, modify, etc. various heating, ventilating, air conditioning (HVAC), ductwork systems and related equipment.
