Job Requirements
Green Homeowners United is seeking an Insulation & Air Sealing Trainee to join our growing team in Milwaukee. The trainee will work hands‑on improving homes' comfort, safety, and energy efficiency by installing insulation, sealing air leaks, and learning building science principles that make homes healthier and more sustainable. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands‑on work, problem solving in older homes, and being part of a mission‑driven team making Wisconsin homes greener and more affordable.
Key Responsibilities- Install insulation materials including rigid foam, blown‑in cellulose, fiberglass batts, and spray foam in attics, walls, and basements.
- Apply air sealing techniques using spray foam, caulk, mastic, weatherstripping, and similar materials to reduce energy loss.
- Perform blower door tests, duct leakage tests, and combustion safety checks (training provided).
- Identify and help solve building issues related to energy use, comfort, and air quality.
- Safely operate power tools, ladders, and insulation equipment while following safety protocols and wearing protective equipment.
- Enter and move safely within attics, crawlspaces, and other tight work areas.
- Drive company vehicles safely and maintain equipment in good condition.
- Communicate professionally with homeowners, team members, and supervisors.
- Uphold the company's values of honesty, trust, promptness, entrepreneurialism, and sustainability.
- Paint, drywall, and light work around ducts and pipes as needed.
- Perform general construction/renovation tasks.
- Move or remove obstructions in the work area and clean the work area at the end of the day.
- Complete other tasks as assigned, particularly those covered by a contract with Laborer’s International Union of North America (LiUNA).

- Experience using basic tools such as drills, saws, and other small construction equipment.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in attics, basements, and crawlspaces.
- Work with a team to problem‑solve on‑the‑ground issues in old homes to best reduce energy use and health hazards.
- Work independently as needed.
- Strong problem‑solving skills, time management, and teamwork abilities.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record (ability to drive a box truck preferred).
- Reliable personal vehicle for local travel desired (mileage reimbursement on company business).
- Ability to work between 8:00 AM–6:00 PM, Monday through Friday (hours vary by day).
- Occasional travel within Wisconsin may be required.
- Preferred experience:
Prior experience in insulation, air sealing, or general construction. - Experience with drywall, window installation, or bending aluminum coil is a plus.
- Familiarity with basic building science concepts or energy efficiency work (training provided).
Basic tools and construction skills needed; training will be provided on insulation specifics. A great candidate is someone eager to learn and develop their skills. Great career and promotion potential.
Compensation commensurate with experience.
