HVAC Service Technician

Nimmer Heating & Air Conditioning | Milwaukee & Waukesha County, WI | $77,000–$90,000/year DOE

Plus performance bonuses on top of base - techs regularly add $12,000–$25,000+ per year once fully ramped up.

Rooted Here. Heart and Purpose. Here to Stay.

For over 35 years, Milwaukee families have called Nimmer when their heat goes out at midnight or their AC dies on the hottest day of summer. We're family-owned, we're local, and we're not going anywhere - and we're looking for a technician who wants the same kind of roots.

If you've got 3+ years of service experience under your belt, know your way around a boiler, and you're tired of being treated like a number, we should talk.

This isn't just a family-owned company on paper. Tyler worked his way up through the technical side of Nimmer - he's been the guy on your side of the work order. Marie came in from the business side, and her focus has always been the same: making Nimmer the best place for HVAC techs to work in Milwaukee County - real pay growth, real work-life balance, real financial stability, not just talk.

Between the two of them, this company is run by people who understand both what the job takes and what the job should give back.

What You'll Actually Do
  • Diagnose and repair residential and light commercial heating (including boilers, rooftop experience a plus), cooling, and air quality systems
  • Walk a customer's home with them, spot comfort and efficiency issues, and lay out real options - you're educating and advising, not selling
  • Be the technician customers ask for by name - because you explain what's wrong and why, not just fix it and leave
  • Mentor and train our service apprentices, helping build the next generation of techs
  • Weigh in with your Service Manager on training gaps, inventory, and pricing - your field experience shapes how we operate
Why Techs Stay at Nimmer
  • Take-home company vehicle - no shop stops before or after your route
  • Structured, ongoing training - an in-house trainer available weekly for technical and soft skills coaching, plus a full slate of outside training opportunities each Fall and Spring - not just a single class twice a year, but ongoing chances to sharpen the trade
  • Real family-owned culture - you're part of a crew, not a headcount number
  • Flexible, seasonal scheduling - Monday–Friday, with start/end times adjusted seasonally to match business need. Busy season typically runs 7:00 AM–5:00 PM or 8:00 AM–6:00 PM; slower Fall/Spring seasons shift to 7:00 AM–3:00 PM, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM, or 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
  • Life happens, and we work with you - need time off for a doctor's appointment, a kid's school event, or anything else? Give us proper notice and we'll make it work
  • A team that actually hangs out - annual company family vacation, in-city team outings, and a crew that's genuinely connected, not just coworkers who happen to share a shop
  • Community isn't a checkbox for us - we go into middle and high schools to introduce students to the trade, sit on the MATC and WCTC technical program boards, and give back to the community. You'll be part of that, not just watching it from the shop
Real Earning Potential

Your base pay is only part of the picture. Every Nimmer tech is eligible for monthly performance bonuses on top of salary - tied to efficiency, customer satisfaction, and completed service revenue, with clear baselines you're expected to hit once you're ramped in. This isn't reserved for a handful of top performers - it's built into how everyone gets paid here.

Techs consistently hitting those baselines add $12,000–$25,000+ per year on top of base, plus spiffs on individual products and services. We also have a clear, published career path - Apprentice → Junior Tech → Maintenance Tech → Service Tech I → Service Tech II → Lead Tech/Field Supervisor → Service Manager - so you always know what the next step looks like and what it pays.

Compensation

& Benefits
  • $77,000–$90,000/year base, depending on experience - plus performance bonuses above
  • Medical insurance - 80% employer-paid for individual coverage
  • Dental and vision insurance
  • 40 hours paid vacation + 6 paid holidays
  • IRA with company match
  • Phone allowance
  • Company…
