Position: Traffic Signal Technician I- Transportation Operations (Day and Night Shifts)

About the Role

Transport Operations Division is hiring for a Traffic Signals Technician I to maintain and construct traffic signals in the City and County of Denver.

Location & Schedule

Reports to the Roslyn Building (5440 Roslyn Street Denver, CO 80216, Building

E) at the beginning and end of each shift. Works in the field throughout the city. Positions:
Day shift (Mon‑Fri, 6:30AM – 3:00PM) and Night shift (Mon‑Fri, 2:30PM – 11:00PM) with a 7% shift differential for night.

Responsibilities
  • General maintenance of traffic signals
  • Learn on the job about monitoring and programming traffic signal timing controllers and making necessary adjustments under the direction of a lead worker or supervisor
  • Use a multimeter to read voltage/ohms in the field and shop
  • Assist with basic wiring, splicing, phasing out intersections, and work at heights up to the luminaire (35ft), concrete work, shoveling, building caissons, and conduit work
  • Install, remove, and repair signal control and auxiliary equipment such as traffic signal controllers and cabinets; work with vehicle detection installations
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams; evaluate and assist with construction projects
  • Operate walk‑behind concrete/pavement saw and air compressor for vehicle detection tasks
  • Operate vehicles and perform pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections (fluid levels, leaks, hose/belt condition, tire pressure, brake lights, etc.)
  • Adhere to common safety practices associated with tools and equipment, monitor work environment for hazards, and ensure safety for self and others
  • Maintain equipment and tools for next scheduled crew
  • Place and remove barricades, cones, and other traffic control and safety devices in and around work areas per traffic regulations
  • Use Cartograph and MS Office Suite to log, record, and create daily work reports for management
  • Assist with investigation of complaints and reports of defective traffic signals and associated equipment
  • Operate pick‑up and bucket trucks, skid steer, mini excavator; use CDL A for hauling trailers if required
  • Participate in occasional weekends as needed
Qualifications
  • Two years of experience in the field/shop with construction, installation, maintenance, or repair of traffic signals
  • Basic wiring, splicing, electrical skills
  • Class A CDL
  • Basic computer skills using MS Office and familiarity with asset‑management systems
  • Current IMSA Traffic Signal LevelI Certification
  • Excellent customer and communication skills
Minimum Qualifications

Education:

High‑school graduate or GED/HiSET/TASC Certificate.

Experience:

One year of experience in traffic signal installation, construction, maintenance, or repair.

Equivalency:
Additional appropriate education may substitute for the minimum experience.

License: A valid Colorado Driver's License.

CDL "B" with appropriate endorsements required by end of probation.
