Job Title

Low Voltage Technician

This is a full-time, non-exempt, hourly position.

Location is project based – primarily within the southeastern Wisconsin region.

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Low Voltage Technician to join our team. As a Low Voltage Technician, you will play a crucial role in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting various low voltage systems, including security, fire alarm, audiovisual, telecommunications, CAT 5E, 6, 6A, fiber and data networks. Your expertise in low voltage systems will ensure the efficient and reliable operation of these critical systems, helping to create safe and connected environments for our clients.

Responsibilities
  • Installation:
    Install, terminate, and test low voltage systems, including security cameras, access control systems, audiovisual equipment, structured cabling, and data networks.
  • Maintenance:
    Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure the ongoing functionality of low voltage systems.
  • Troubleshooting:
    Diagnose and repair issues with low voltage systems, identifying and resolving faults in a timely manner to minimize downtime.
  • System Upgrades:
    Assist in upgrading existing low voltage systems to meet evolving technological and security requirements.
  • Documentation:
    Maintain accurate records of installations, maintenance, and repairs, including equipment configurations and wiring diagrams.
  • Compliance:
    Ensure all work complies with industry standards, local codes, and safety regulations.
  • Client Communication:
    Interact professionally with clients, providing technical support, explaining system features, and addressing their questions and concerns.
  • Collaboration:

    Collaborate with other team members, such as electricians, project managers, vendors, and contractors, to ensure successful project completion.
  • Quality Assurance:
    Conduct testing and quality assurance checks to verify the proper functioning of low voltage systems before project completion.
  • Training:
    Stay updated on industry trends and technology advancements through training and certifications to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Low Voltage Technician or a similar role (+2 years preferred).
  • Proficiency in the installation and maintenance of low voltage systems.
  • Networking experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of low voltage cabling, connectors, and termination techniques.
  • Familiarity with power tools and testing equipment used in low voltage work.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proactive self-starter with discipline to manage tasks independently.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials up to 50 pounds, sometimes overhead.
  • Able to climb ladders, operate lifts, and work from heights.
  • Able to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and work in confined spaces.
  • Able to see, accurately differentiate colors, read plan prints and project specs.
  • Able to hear and communicate with other employees and customers, both written and verbal.
  • Able to operate/drive a company vehicle.
