Electrician - Milwaukee Youth Facility

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Buildings and Grounds Superintendent, this position is responsible for performing work assignments as an Electrician at all DJC facilities. This skilled Trades position is entrusted with a high level of responsibility. Responsibilities include inspection, installation, analysis, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and repair of all facility electrical devices, appliances, equipment and system components (i.e. wiring, lighting, switches, receptacles, motors, pumps, switch gear, transfer switches, transformers, power distribution systems and components, etc.)

throughout the institution complex and property. This position will report and make recommendations on lighting and power controls, installations, modifications, etc., to further enhance the institution energy conservation efforts. This position will assist other maintenance department personnel in routine tasks when necessary. This position will occasionally provide direction, training, instruction, supervision, and coordinate the work of Facilities Maintenance personnel, or Limited Term Employees regarding maintenance tasks, repair work assignments, and/or projects related to electrical systems and equipment.

This position may also provide occasional support to area DOC facilities as needed.

This position is in pay schedule and range 04-00 with a starting pay of $54.03/hour, $54.93/hour, or $55.80/hour, depending on the leave amount selected. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

This position is not eligible for remote work. This position has physical requirements, including but not limited to standing, walking, bending, twisting, kneeling, and pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying up to 75lbs. This position will work within a wide range of temperatures, in dusty, dirty or confined areas or areas that are noisy. This position will also work within close physical proximity to youth and other staff.

Must have the ability to work up to 16 hours per day and more than 40 hours per week on any shift based on operational needs, which may include weekends and holidays.

This position requires possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to travel.
