Parent/Child Class Teacher 2026-27

Come work at Portland Waldorf School! We are welcoming applications for a part-time Parent/Child Class teacher to teach four classes per week to small groups of families with children from newborn to age 3 years in the 2026-27 school year. This position is an integral part of the school’s programs, which offer a secure, healthy, and nurturing environment for children, with weekly and seasonal rhythms that include storytelling, creative and active play, and nourishment.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and carry out all areas of the parent/child class curriculum according to Waldorf pedagogy
  • Create and maintain a clean and orderly classroom space and common areas, including outdoors
  • Collaboration with other faculty and staff regarding student and family care
  • Participate in non‑teaching duties, including weekly section meeting attendance, in‑service professional development, and school outreach events (open houses, preschool fairs, community events)
  • Actively engage in healthy parent relations through parent education and school events
  • Substitute for other teachers as needed
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Waldorf Early Childhood Teacher Certificate or equivalent as recognized by the Waldorf Early Childhood Association of North America or AWSNA
  • Licensed by the State of Oregon, Department of Early Learning and Care; maintain enrolled status in Oregon Central Background Registry
  • At least two years teaching in a classroom of young children preferred
  • Understanding of Waldorf early childhood development and willingness to work out of Anthroposophy
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other faculty and staff to support the mission of Portland Waldorf School

This position assists staff with community outreach, including school fairs, open houses, and other events; and leads parent education workshops on child development and Waldorf pedagogy at PWS and in the community. This may require working occasional evenings and weekends.

This position is part‑time, non‑exempt with an hourly pay rate of $55.00. Work hours are 7:45‑11:45 am four days per week (three weekdays and Saturdays) during each seasonal class session (Fall, Winter, and Spring); attending all in‑service and early childhood section meetings; occasional evenings and weekends for school outreach, parent education, and community events. Availability to substitute for other teachers and to work/substitute during school break and summer camps, preferred.

Portland Waldorf School was founded in 1982 and is fully accredited through AWSNA. We serve over 300 students from early childhood through grade twelve on a beautiful seven‑acre campus. We offer a full Waldorf curriculum, including eurythmy, handwork, instrumental and choral music, blacksmithing and woodworking, drama, Spanish, Mandarin, games/movement, middle and high school athletics and a high school foreign exchange program.
