The incumbent performs a variety of instructional, training, and/or support duties to assist Special Education teachers in instruction, supervision, and education of students with severe physical and mental special needs that generally require placement in self-contained classrooms. The incumbent may also be assigned in one-on-one teacher-to-student situations when the students have needs similar to those of Structured Learning Center classrooms (e.g., physical disabilities requiring considerable support).
Compensation- Initial wage placement according to NCSD/OSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

- North Clackamas School District participates in the Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS and OPSRP). The district contributes the employer portion; a mandatory employee contribution of 6% of salary is required upon eligibility (working at least six full calendar months or 600 hours in a calendar year).
- Successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities, or demonstrated a commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skill in communicating with a diverse population.
- Successful completion of an Associate's Degree, or two years of post‑high school education, or written educational testing service competency examination.
- Certification (or ability to become certified) in first aid, CPR, and/or operation of defibrillators.
- Training in instructional and behavior intervention methodologies in reading, writing, mathematics, and in student restraint, safety, medication, and physical management.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as a team member.
- Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions and changing tasks and priorities.
- Ability to assist, console, and manage students who may be emotional, distraught, or frustrated.
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and in control when working with upset students, parents, guardians, or community members.
- Ability to follow written and verbal direction and take initiative to seek clarity and action.
- Knowledgeable of classroom management and student discipline procedures.
- Effective and accurate command of the English language.
- Ability to organize work and set priorities for timely accomplishment.
- Ability to protect student confidentiality consistent with FERPA requirements.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, students, parents, volunteers, and community members.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Skill in office and computer equipment, standard office software, and student information system software.
- Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate related field.
- Two years of experience working successfully with children in a learning environment.
- Bilingual and bicultural skills.
- Familiarity or willingness to be trained in Down syndrome, Autism, multiple disabilities, mental health disorders, ADHD, etc.
- Collaboratively assist teachers and specialists in assessment, curriculum implementation, student interactions, and interventions.
- Provide complex toileting, feeding, mobility, and personal hygiene support for students.
- Assist with independent living skills such as cooking, laundry, and general hygiene.
- Assist or take action to de‑escalate students at risk of harming themselves or others following approved procedures.
