POSITION DESCRIPTION

Equipment Maintenance Supervisor's responsibilities involve leading a team to ensure equipment runs efficiently and safely by planning, scheduling, and overseeing preventive and corrective maintenance. Ensuring safety compliance (OSHA), training staff, coordinating with other departments, and maintaining detailed records to minimize downtime and extend asset life. Conduct and supervise repairs and maintenance on Louisiana State vehicles and equipment in accordance with submitted/approved work orders.

Proficient in maintenance and repair on wheeled, tracked, small and large equipment, and vehicles with either diesel or gasoline engines. Proficient in the recovery of disabled vehicles and equipment utilizing various trailers to include car hauler and goose neck trailers. Experience with towing, towing capacities, proper loading, and the use of chains and binders to secure the equipment properly. Team Leadership & Supervision: train, schedule, and supervise maintenance technicians ensuring task completion, skill development, and adherence to LMD policies.

Planning & Scheduling:
Develop and implement preventive maintenance (PM) schedules, assign work orders, and prioritize tasks to meet operational demands and minimize disruption. Safety Compliance:
Enforce all health, safety, and environmental regulations (like OSHA), conduct safety inspections, and ensure a safe working environment for the team. Inventory Management: procure necessary parts and supplies, maintain inventory, and track equipment performance. Equipment Oversight:
Conduct regular inspections, oversee repairs, diagnose issues, and recommend upgrades or replacements for optimal equipment functionality. Equipment Safety:
Ensure the safe operation of maintenance and repair equipment, to include, but not limited to: vehicle lifts, tire machines, jacks, and fork lifts. Reporting & Communication:
Maintain accurate maintenance records, track key performance indicators (KPIs) like uptime. Process Improvement:
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in maintenance processes, policies, and procedures to enhance efficiency and reduce costs. Core Focus:
Minimize Downtime:
Proactively manage maintenance to prevent unexpected equipment failures. Extend Asset Life:
Implement effective PM strategies to prolong the lifespan of machinery and facility assets. Ensure Operational Smoothness:
Keep all equipment and building systems functioning at peak efficiency. Adhere to Installation Standard Operation Procedures. Attend Mandatory LMD training classes. Maintain custody and control of hand receipted assets. Perform other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma/GED minimum;
Associates degree or vocational training in automotive/heavy equipment is preferred. 5-7+ years as a skilled automotive or heavy equipment mechanic, with 1-2 years in a supervisory role. Proficiency in diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, reading manuals/blueprints, and understanding computer software. Strong communication, problem-solving, organization, time management, and ability to motivate and manage staff. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications are preferred.

GENERAL

REQUIREMENTS
  • Must have a valid Driver's License, Social Security Card and Birth Certificate
  • Must qualify to obtain a Department of Defense Common Access Card (CAC) Card.
  • Must be available to report to duty during emergency or disaster situations. Other periodic travel may be required.
  • Must meet physical requirements to perform functions of the position.
  • Must attend/complete all Louisiana Military Department (LMD) annual training and other training required for the position.
  • Must adhere to the Code of Ethics and foster a Sexual Harassment-Free Environment.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • All LMD positions require in-office attendance. This is not a remote position.
  • Salary is paid by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) / Direct Deposit Only. A checking or savings account is required for employment.
  • For positions requiring computer/email access selected applicant must qualify to obtain a Department of Defense Common Access Card (CAC) Card and maintain eligibility.
  • LMD is a substance abuse and drug free workplace. The selected applicant must pass a preemployment background investigation and pre-employment drug test. Thereafter, all employees are subject to random drug testing.
