Tradesman; Electrical

Job Title

Perform skilled, journeyman-level electrical work in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of low-voltage and high-voltage electrical systems, fixtures, and apparatuses across the Camp Minden Training Site.

The Tradesman (Electrician) ensures that all military, training, residential, and operational facility systems remain safely powered, code-compliant, and fully operational in support of the Louisiana Military Department statewide readiness and emergency response missions.

Install, bend, and route electrical conduit, pull wire, and terminate connections. Install electrical hardware including transformers, junction boxes, circuit breakers, sub-panels, switches, and lighting fixtures. Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams to lay out new infrastructure or modifications in compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC). Diagnose and isolate electrical malfunctions using testing equipment. Conduct preventative maintenance inspections on facility power distribution systems, back-up generators, and exterior security lighting.

Repair or replace faulty wiring, degraded circuitry, and blown components. Assist other facility maintenance trades (carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and general mechanical) on multi-disciplinary projects. Respond to emergency calls, utility outages, or critical equipment failures. Must remain available to report for duty during state emergencies or natural disaster support activations. Maintain records of completed electrical work, materials used, and equipment service logs.

Requisition parts, manage inventory of electrical supplies, and maintain the electrical workshop in a clean, safe, and organized state. Strictly adhere to OSHA, LMD safety regulations, and personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols.

Strength & Stamina:
Must be able to lift, carry, and maneuver tools, conduit, and heavy electrical equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis. Mobility:
Requires the physical agility to climb ladders, work on scaffolding, operate aerial lifts/bucket trucks, and navigate confined or restricted work spaces. Postures:
Prolonged periods of standing, bending, kneeling, reaching overhead, and working in awkward positions are required to complete wiring installations. Heights:
Frequent work performed at elevated heights on ladders, scissor lifts, or rooftops. Environmental Extremes:
Exposure to Louisiana's extreme summer heat, high humidity, and wet outdoor environments while performing exterior maintenance. Perform other duties as assigned.

Position

Qualifications:

Possess solid knowledge and understanding in the areas of electrical maintenance tasks. Ability to organize tasks and prioritize duties for preventive, routine, and emergency electrical maintenance tasks. Must be able to work with minimal guidance, instruction. or supervision.

General Requirements:

• Must have a valid Driver's License, Social Security Card and Birth Certificate.
• Must be available to report to duty during emergency or disaster situations for extended hours over an extended period of time. Other periodic travel may be required.
• Must meet physical requirements to perform functions of the position.
• Must attend/complete all Louisiana Military Department (LMD) annual training and other training required for the position.
• Must adhere to the Code of Ethics and foster a Sexual Harassment-Free Environment.

Conditions of Employment:

• All LMD positions require in-office attendance. This is not a remote position.
• Salary is paid by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) / Direct Deposit Only. A checking or savings account is required for employment.
• For positions requiring computer/email access selected applicant must qualify to obtain a Department of Defense Common Access Card (CAC) Card and maintain eligibility.
• LMD is a substance abuse and drug free workplace. The selected applicant must pass a pre-employment background investigation and pre-employment drug test. Thereafter, all employees are subject to random drug testing.
• To become an employee of the LMD you must be a current member of the Louisiana National Guard or eligible for membership in the Louisiana State Guard.
• The selected applicant must pass a pre-employment criminal background investigation prior to employment.
