About the Role:

The Ultrasound Tech PRN at Palo Pinto General Hospital plays a critical role in providing high-quality diagnostic imaging services on an as-needed basis. This position involves performing ultrasound examinations to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating medical conditions accurately. The Ultrasound Tech will ensure patient comfort and safety while operating sophisticated ultrasound equipment and adhering to established protocols. They will collaborate closely with healthcare teams to deliver timely and precise imaging results that support effective patient care.

This role demands flexibility, technical expertise, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice in a dynamic hospital environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a program of Radiologic Technology required or graduate of a program of Ultrasound Technology.
  • Current certification as an American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) or equivalent.
  • Proven experience performing a variety of ultrasound procedures in a clinical setting.
  • Basic life support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a hospital environment, preferably in a general hospital setting.
  • Additional certifications in specialized ultrasound areas such as abdominal, obstetrics/gynecology, or vascular sonography.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and digital imaging software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with diverse patient populations.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts and respond to PRN scheduling needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures in accordance with physician orders and hospital protocols.
  • Prepare patients for ultrasound examinations by explaining procedures and ensuring their comfort and safety.
  • Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment, ensuring proper functionality and cleanliness.
  • Accurately document and report findings to the radiologist or attending physician for interpretation.
  • Collaborate with medical staff to coordinate patient care and optimize imaging services.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all regulatory and safety standards.
  • Participate in continuing education and training to stay current with advances in ultrasound technology and techniques.

OSHA Job Category:

  • Tasks involving exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.

Skills:

The Ultrasound Tech utilizes technical skills daily to operate advanced ultrasound equipment and produce clear diagnostic images essential for patient care. Strong communication skills are employed to explain procedures to patients, ensuring their comfort and cooperation during exams. Attention to detail is critical when documenting findings and maintaining accurate patient records to support clinical decision-making. Problem-solving abilities help in troubleshooting equipment issues and adapting to unique patient needs or clinical situations.

Additionally, teamwork and collaboration skills are vital for coordinating with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver seamless imaging services.

PRN who may be asked to work between the hours of 7AM-11PM. Must be available for call. 0.40 FTE will work as needed to fill in for staff. This position is hourly and is eligible for overtime and shift differentials, as applicable.
