the Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) PRN at Palo Pinto General Hospital in the Medical Surgical department plays a critical role in delivering high-quality patient care on an as-needed basis, ensuring flexibility and responsiveness to fluctuating patient volumes. Provides consistent quality beside care to patients who have medical and post-surgical needs. This position requires the nurse to provide comprehensive nursing assessments, develop and implement individualized care plans, and collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.

The RN PRN is responsible for monitoring patient progress, administering medications and treatments safely, and educating patients and their families about health management and recovery processes. This role demands adaptability, clinical expertise, and a commitment to maintaining the hospital’s standards of excellence in healthcare delivery. Ultimately, the RN PRN contributes to the hospital’s mission by providing compassionate, evidence-based care that supports patient well-being and recovery in a dynamic healthcare environment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Texas.
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing).
  • Must have one year of RN experience to work in a PRN position
  • Certifications:

    BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • Demonstrated clinical experience in a hospital or acute care setting.
  • Ability to work flexible hours on an as-needed (PRN) basis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
  • Experience working in a general hospital environment or similar healthcare facility.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective patient and team interactions.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments and document findings accurately in medical records.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and procedures in accordance with established protocols and physician orders.
  • Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and update individualized care plans.
  • Monitor patient conditions continuously, recognizing and responding promptly to changes in health status.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatments, and post-discharge care instructions.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.
Skills

The RN PRN utilizes clinical assessment skills daily to evaluate patient conditions and determine appropriate interventions. Effective communication skills are essential for coordinating care with multidisciplinary teams and educating patients and families. Time management and adaptability are critical to efficiently handle varying patient loads and urgent situations. Proficiency with electronic health records ensures accurate documentation and continuity of care. Additionally, critical thinking and problem-solving skills enable the nurse to respond promptly to changes in patient status and contribute to quality improvement efforts.

Position is for day shift. No set days.

This is a PRN role and does not work set hours.
