RMHC‑UM operates five locations in Minnesota – four in the Twin Cities and one in Duluth – and provides complimentary lodging, meals and support to thousands of families every year.
Job SummaryThe Accounting Specialist role is responsible for the coordination of administration across departments including accounting, finance, and database responsibilities as well as assisting other staff in this growing, dynamic, service‑oriented environment.
Primary Responsibilities- Accounts payable – process invoices for approval and payment in accounting systems.
- Enter, review, validate, and assist in processing accounting transactions, and maintenance of accurate accounting records.
- Reconcile data between financial system, donor tracking system, and event software.
- Coordinate the flow of all gift documentation from beginning to end.
- Support information requests within the finance and accounting department as well as others as needed.
- Monitor the operating bank account for electronic payments and deposits and assemble information for processing purposes.
- Review and process daily receipts of checks, cash, and electronic donations.
- Support system enhancements, process improvements, and other department projects.
- Review and process In‑Kind donations.
- Assist in maintaining and tracking internal gift card inventory.
- Support the monthly close process with duties as assigned, as well as audit preparation.
- Perform other accounting duties as assigned.

Expected Hours of WorkThis is 40 hours a week, full‑time non‑exempt position.
Hours of work are generally Monday through Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Ronald McDonald House Charities, Upper Midwest operates programs within three pediatric hospitals in Minneapolis and St. Paul and one in Duluth, MN. Programs provide services to families who have children receiving inpatient treatment in the hospital.
PreferredEducation and Experience
- Minimum of two years of accounting experience preferred; non‑profit experience a plus
- Quick Books, Blackbaud Raisers Edge/ Financial Edge database experience a plus
- Demonstrated ability to multi‑task and to refocus following interruptions
- Demonstrated strength in working with people of diverse ages and backgrounds
- Diligent attention to detail and strong organizational skills, with an ability to prioritize
- Collaborative initiative‑taking, service‑minded, and positive attitude
- Microsoft Office proficiency (e.g. Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Knowledge and skills in databases, accounting, volunteerism, and development
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Resilient and adaptable
- Ability to professionally interact with RMHC staff, families, and volunteers
- Able to maintain confidentiality according to HIPAA and other relevant privacy regulations
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment with unexpected variations throughout the workday
- Ability to manage details, organize, and prioritize
- Compassion and the ability to work with families facing a health crisis or loss of a child
- Frequently load and unload carts with donated items – ability to lift 20 pounds.
