Bassford Remele is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Junior Billing Specialist to join our Accounting team in our downtown Minneapolis office. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with numbers, systems, and detailed information and is interested in building a career in legal billing and law firm accounting.
Working closely with our Billing Specialist and Controller, the Junior Billing Specialist will assist with the firm’s billing cycle, including processing time entries, preparing and reviewing prebills, making billing revisions, and submitting invoices through electronic billing platforms. The position will also provide limited support with accounts receivable and other Accounting team responsibilities.
Prior law firm billing experience is helpful, but it is not required. We are looking for someone with strong attention to detail, good judgment, a willingness to learn, and the ability to stay organized while managing recurring deadlines. Training and support will be provided.
What You’ll Do- Process and review attorney and professional time entries, including making corrections and updates as needed.
- Assist with the preparation, review, and distribution of monthly prebills.
- Make billing edits and adjustments based on attorney instructions and established firm procedures.
- Assist with finalizing and processing client invoices.
- Submit invoices through client electronic billing platforms and monitor submissions for acceptance, rejection, or required corrections.
- Research and help resolve e-billing issues, invoice rejections, and client billing requirements.
- Review billing information and invoices for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with client guidelines.
- Assist with new client and matter billing setup and ongoing maintenance.
- Maintain accurate billing records and supporting documentation.
- Provide limited accounts receivable support, including reviewing outstanding balances and assisting with routine collection follow-up.
- Respond to routine billing questions from attorneys and staff, working with the Billing Specialist or Controller on more complex matters.
- Assist with reports, reconciliations, and other Accounting team projects as needed.
- Maintain the confidentiality of client, financial, and firm information.
- 1-3 years of experience in billing, accounting, accounts receivable, finance, or an administrative position involving detailed financial or numerical information preferred.
- Law firm or professional services experience is a plus, but not required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or coursework in accounting, business, finance, or a related field is a plus.
- Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and recurring deadlines.
- Comfort working with numbers, spreadsheets, and detailed data.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.
- Ability and willingness to learn new software, billing systems, and electronic billing platforms.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

You don’t need to know everything about legal billing on day one. We’re looking for someone who is curious, dependable, and comfortable learning new processes. You’ll receive training and support from experienced members of our Accounting team, with the opportunity to take on greater responsibility as your knowledge and confidence grow.
