Senior Development Accountant

Our client is an organization in the Minneapolis area looking for a Senior Development Accountant. Our client is looking for someone with strong accounting experience, excellent project management skills, and an interest in real estate development. This individual will support the financial aspects of development projects from initial investment through financing, construction, and eventual disposition while partnering with teams across the organization.

The salary range for this position is $80k-110k.

The Senior Development Accountant will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Manage day-to-day accounting and financial reporting activities for assigned real estate development projects.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly and quarterly project financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Monitor project costs, cash activity, budgets, and forecasts while researching and communicating significant variances.
  • Prepare financial schedules, analyses, and management reporting to provide visibility into project performance.
  • Support project funding activities by preparing financial documentation, invoices, and other information required by external financing partners.
  • Maintain financial projections related to development activity, project cash flow, fees, investments, and other transactions.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external business partners to ensure the financial aspects of development transactions are completed accurately and timely.
  • Support accounting for joint ventures and other investment structures, including evaluating appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Prepare supporting schedules for tax reporting, annual audits, and other compliance requirements.
  • Assist with accounting activities related to property acquisitions, financing transactions, and dispositions.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and ensure accounting records are complete and appropriately supported.
  • Develop a strong understanding of assigned projects and proactively identify accounting or reporting matters requiring additional attention.
  • Build effective relationships with operational leaders, finance teams, external partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline development accounting processes and improve the accuracy and efficiency of financial reporting.
  • Support special projects, financial analyses, and other accounting initiatives as needed.

The Senior Development Accountant will possess the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • 2-5 years of progressive accounting experience required.
  • Real estate, development, construction, or project accounting experience preferred.
  • CPA designation or progress toward CPA certification is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles.
  • Experience with joint venture, partnership, or multi-entity accounting is a plus.
  • Ability to analyze financial information and develop accurate financial reports and projections.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with executives, operational teams, lenders, and external business partners.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to take ownership of projects
  • Collaborative, self-motivated professional who is comfortable working across multiple departments in a fast-paced environment.
