Seeking a high-caliber Manufacturing Operations Accounting Manager to oversee financial reporting and accounting operations for a specialty materials manufacturing site - applications across aerospace, automotive, medical, and industrial sectors. With annual revenue around $60-70M, this is bolt-on is well run yet there is plenty of opportunity for optimization.
The Account Manager will oversee site-level general accounting, financial reporting, and cost management. This role acts as a strategic financial partner to plant operations, ensuring US GAAP compliance while driving variance analysis, forecasting accuracy, and operational cost-optimization efforts.
Reports to the site Controller (f/a leader) and a has a team of 3. The company is based South of MSP area about 30-45 minutes and they do offer some flexibility, but are primarily onsite. The portco HQ is out East.
Responsibilities- Financial Close & Ledger Management: Lead the monthly closing cycle, prepare and review complex journal entries, and ensure complete accuracy across all general ledger accounts and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Cost Accounting & Inventory Oversight: Manage product costing procedures, direct labor/overhead absorption rates, standard cost updates, purchase price variance (PPV) tracking, cycle count oversight, and inventory valuation policies.
- Financial Analysis & Reporting: Conduct detailed monthly Forecast vs. Actual variance analyses for all P&L and Balance Sheet accounts, presenting key drivers and operational metrics to site leadership.
- Budgeting & Capital Management: Partner with leadership during the annual budgeting process, maintain ongoing financial forecasts, and track site Capital Expenditure (Cap Ex) spending and cash flow performance.
- Cross-Functional Expense Optimization: Collaborate with plant operations, supply chain, and engineering to analyze expenses, identify efficiency opportunities, and implement cost-saving initiatives.
- Audit & Continuous Improvement: Support internal/external audit requirements and proactively identify opportunities to streamline financial processes and forecasting workflows.
- Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Cost Accounting Expertise: Strong background in manufacturing cost accounting, inventory control, standard costing, and direct variance analysis.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep working knowledge of US GAAP and core accounting principles.
- Systems & Tools: High proficiency in advanced Excel (financial modeling, large dataset analysis); experience with enterprise ERP systems (Oracle preferred).
- Soft Skills: Collaborative team player capable of working across functional lines and clearly translating financial data into operational insights.
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Preferred: CPA certification, MBA, or Master’s in Accounting (MSA).
This is a good role in a good company that will provide a good balance of challenge, opportunity, and reward.
Salary is commensurate of exp, but 110-130k is their sweet spot. Could be higher for the right person/profile. Bonus, benefits, and windfall payout potential.
