The University of Minnesota Libraries seeks an individual as a Processing Assistant to contribute to the physical processing and description of archival collections stewarded by the University of Minnesota Archives. The Processing Assistant will work closely with the Collections Archivist and additional University of Minnesota Archives staff members.
This is an ongoing casual appointment of 14 hours or less per week and is not eligible for benefits.
This position will require work to be done primarily on-site in the Elmer L. Andersen Library or in other library or campus locations.
This position is not eligible for H-1B visa sponsorship.
ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting in gaining physical and intellectual control over recent accessions, providing timely point-of-need processing to prepare for research use and public access, creating new or revising existing descriptions in Archives Space, and processing backlog collections. As part of these efforts, assistance with space management (shelving, shifting, and location updates) will also be expected.
- Rebox, folder, and arrange archival materials as appropriate.
- Conduct basic preservation tasks as needed.
- Review collection for private or restricted materials.
- Create accurate box lists.
- Create or update archival descriptions in Archives Space.
- Assist in space management for collections.
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- Practical experience handling archival collections.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred:
- Experience with Archives Space collection management tool.
- Familiarity with appraisal and archival description practices.
Pay Range: $22.00/hour
