The Business Transformation Intern will support the Customer Core (CIS Modernization) program within the Products & Services Tower at Xcel Energy, based in Minneapolis, MN. The team is responsible for designing and delivering future-state customer, billing, and product/service processes as part of a large-scale enterprise transformation. As the program transitions into detailed design, development, and training preparation, the intern will work alongside business leads, product owners, and cross-functional tower teams (e.g., billing, reporting, and customer experience) to help translate business requirements into actionable deliverables.
This includes supporting process design documentation, identifying gaps (e.g., non-SAP integration considerations), and preparing materials that enable successful system build, testing, and end-user training. The intern will gain exposure to large-scale utility transformation, regulatory considerations, and how business, technology, and data teams collaborate to deliver customer-focused outcomes. Work will be performed in a hybrid environment based in Minneapolis or Denver, with frequent interaction across distributed teams.
This position is for a May 24, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.
- Support development and refinement of detailed business process designs and documentation as the program moves into design and build phases
- Analyze and organize requirements, decisions, and dependencies across towers, including tracking gaps (e.g., non-SAP solutions, cross-system integrations)
- Assist in creation of training and change management materials to support future system adoption (job aids, process guides, presentations)
- Coordinate inputs from product owners, SMEs, and tower leads to ensure alignment across customer, billing, and reporting work streams
- Support program reporting and organization needs, including preparing summaries, tracking action items, and maintaining documentation repositories
- Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying inefficiencies or risks in current processes and proposing structured solutions
- Current student, Junior or higher
- Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Business, Energy, Sustainability, Technology, Organization Management
- Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.
