Job Description
Ryan Companies US, Inc. has an immediate career opportunity for a Safety Engineer to join our Mission Critical team at any number of current locations:
Atlanta, Columbus, Ohio, Phoenix, South Bend, Indiana, or Minneapolis.
- Interface closely with the Mission Critical Campus Safety Manager, Field Managers, and employees to implement, monitor, and enforce the safety program.
- Contribute to safety and health program management, design, and continual improvement.
- Monitor construction activities and advise management on compliance with applicable regulatory rules, regulations, and laws.
- Collect and monitor project safety programs from all subcontractors that are specific to each project.
- Assist in the investigation of all project accidents, incidents, and near misses and analyze investigative data to develop preventive measures.
- Prepare and submit accident reports as required by federal, state, client, and local regulations.
- Conduct regular safety inspections of the project, including equipment and materials, to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
- Develop and disseminate safety training materials and information.
- Compile and distribute statistical reports on safety performance, accident costs, and OSHA‑related fines.
- Develop databases to perform data analytics in support of operational improvement and zero‑incident initiatives.
- Participate in all pre‑construction safety meetings, safety committee meetings, and review JHA’s, PTP’s, and permits required by subcontractors.
- Conduct project safety orientations, toolbox talks, and all job safety meetings; oversee safety support personnel assigned to the project.
- Evaluate safety and health programs of construction activities and advise supervision and management on adequacy and compliance with mandatory rules.
- Provide training and technical support on safety topics to project supervision for mission critical projects.
- Implement company drug and alcohol testing programs and coordinate medical treatment facilities for injured workers.
- Provide interface with OSHA, assist during compliance inspections, OSHA Consultation visits, and participate in OSHA fines and citation meetings.
- Ability to work independently and productively with others.
- Knowledge of mission critical project systems (preferred).
- Knowledge of LOTO and NFPA 70E requirements.
- Experience in incident investigations, near‑misses, injuries, property damage, and public‑impact incidents.
- Strong understanding of OSHA regulations for the construction industry.
- Minimum of 3 years of safety experience within the construction industry.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with construction technology systems and multiple computer software platforms.
- Demonstrated leadership and initiative (pro‑active, self‑starter, innovative).
- OSHA 30‑hour construction certificate.
- Current first‑aid, CPR, and AED training from a nationally recognized organization.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, risk management, electrical engineering, or a related field.
- Additional certifications (CSP, CIH, ASP, CHST) are a plus.
