Vocal Music Director for a Musical Production

Robbinsdale Armstrong High School

General Description

The Vocal Music Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of music in a production.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with the Artistic Director on interpretation/vision of the production.
  • Oversees and communicates information to the music staff.
  • Attends production meetings.
  • Researches specific styles of music (where appropriate).
  • Runs music auditions.
  • Assists Artistic Director and Choreographer with casting the show.
  • Teaches cast and chorus all vocal selections.
  • Communicates vocal needs to the Choreographer.
Specific Duties
  • Hires Rehearsal Accompanist.
  • Selects music for auditions.
  • Submits vocal rehearsal schedule to Artistic Director for master schedule.
  • Runs vocal rehearsals.
  • Communicates tempos and other musical needs to the Orchestra Conductor.
  • Attends all run throughs and dress rehearsals.
  • Creates a microphone plot.

    Coordinates with the Sound Engineer for microphone checks.
Requirements

The candidate for this position will hold a bachelor's degree in music and possess at least three years of musical theatre experience. A teaching degree is preferred, but not necessary. Good communication skills with adults and students are essential. A criminal background check is required by the district before employment.
