Position: Motor Vehicle Licensing Technician – Driver License Agent (Part-Time)

Job Title

Under the general supervision of the Motor Vehicle Licensing Supervisor, performs a wide variety of customer service and clerical work of above average difficulty and performs related work as required for the Licensing Division.

Job Duties

Essential duties include:

  • Providing excellent customer service for Motor Vehicle Licensing department by greeting guests in a professional, courteous and friendly manner, and by maintaining visibility and always being tactful and polite.
  • Processing a variety of transactions in MNDRIVE related to Motor Vehicle Licensing and Driver's License and Department of Natural Resources (DNR) licenses and registrations in accordance with federal, state and local laws, regulations and procedures.
  • Processing limited Driver's License and Identification Card services in accordance with Minnesota DVS policies.
  • Accurately entering, reviewing and processing transactions using the Minnesota Driver and Vehicle Services (MNDRIVE) system while ensuring compliance with applicable policies and maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Interpreting and applying applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures to ensure transactions are processed correctly and efficiently.
  • Responding to customer inquiries by providing accurate information and assistance in person, by telephone, and through other communication methods.
  • Serving as relief receptionist/information desk staff by welcoming visitors, directing customers to appropriate services, answering general inquiries, and supporting front counter operations.
  • Maintaining the confidentiality and security of customer information in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and City policies.
  • Collaborating with team members to ensure efficient operations and consistently high level of customer service.
  • Operating a cash register and 10-key adding machine.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Motor Vehicle and Department of Natural Resources (DNR) laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to accurately process Motor Vehicle DNR transaction in compliance with federal, state and local government.
  • Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally and courteously with a diverse customer population.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to remain organized and productive while handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
  • Ability to effectively multitask in a fast-paced, high-volume customer service environment.
  • Proficiency with computerized transaction processing systems, cash handling and point-of-sale technology.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive personal and financial information with integrity.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve customer concerns and transactions discrepancies.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as a member of a team.
  • Demonstrated reliability through consistent attendance, punctuality, and accountability.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing laws, regulations, and operational procedures.
  • Strong conflict resolution and de-escalation skills when addressing difficult customer situations.
  • Ability to accurately reconcile cash drawers, process payments, and maintain financial accountability.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and maintaining required certifications and training.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and ethical decision-making in all customer interactions.
Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Must have a High School Diploma or General Education Development Certificate (GED).

Preferred qualifications include:

  • One (1) year or more of experience processing transactions using the Minnesota Driver and Vehicle Service (MNDRIVE) system.
  • Experience processing Motor Vehicle, Department of Natural Resources (DNR) transactions.
  • Three (3) or more years of customer service experience preferably in a high-volume public service, government, financial, or retail environment.
  • Experience balancing cash drawers and reconciling daily financial transactions
  • Experience interpreting and applying federal, state and local regulations while processing customer transactions.
  • One (1) year of experience demonstrating strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Supplemental Information

Physical demands include:

  • Ability to sit, stand, talk, and listen for extended periods of time. Ability to bend, stoop, reach, manipulate doors, drawers and locks.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must have fine motor skills to manipulate fingers for extended use of a keyboard.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
