Summary
Summary/Purpose The Unlicensed Dental Assistant Instructor at Summit Academy OIC supports dental education by assisting instructors and managing clinical procedures. This role involves preparing dental instruments, maintaining a clean environment, and ensuring patient comfort during clinical sessions. The instructor also educates students on infection control and dental anatomy while managing patient records through electronic medical record (EMR) systems. The position requires a state license, CPR certification, and experience in a clinical or educational dental setting, with a focus on both technical and interpersonal skills to enhance student learning and patient care.
EssentialFunctions
Clinical Support
- Instruct Procedures:
Train students during clinical sessions to pass instruments, prepare materials, and ensure patient comfort. - Instrument Preparation and Sterilization:
Prepare dental tools and equipment before sessions, ensuring proper sterilization and maintenance according to infection control standards. - Patient Preparation:
Guide and prepare patients for procedures, ensuring they are informed and comfortable throughout their clinical experience.
Educational Support
- Student Education and Training:
Teach students proper dental practices, including infection control, anatomy, and the use of dental instruments, ensuring they understand the procedures and safety protocols. - Demonstrations:
Assist in demonstrations of dental techniques, providing hands-on guidance to enhance student learning outcomes. - Curriculum Development:
Assist in developing and refining dental assisting curriculum and instructional materials that align with industry standards and student learning objectives. - Classroom Management:
Manage student behavior and maintain a structured, supportive learning environment, ensuring all participants engage effectively in both classroom and clinical settings.
Administrative Duties
- Patient Record Management:
Maintain accurate patient records in EMR systems, updating vital information such as treatments performed, patient history, and vital signs. - Scheduling and Coordination:
Manage appointments and coordinate with the training team to ensure smooth scheduling of clinical sessions and resource availability. - Inventory Management:
Track and manage dental supplies and equipment, ensuring availability for clinical sessions and managing reordering processes.
Compliance and Safety
- Infection Control Protocols:
Implement and monitor infection control measures in the training environment to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. - Health and Safety Training:
Educate students and colleagues on best practices in maintaining a safe clinical environment, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Understanding of dental practices, anatomy, and clinical techniques. - Infection Control:

Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a professional office and classroom environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical DemandsPresentations, classroom observations, computer work, and some filing are required. This would require lifting files, opening filing cabinets, using keyboarding skills, and bending or standing as necessary.
Position Type and Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time, exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This position may require long hours and occasional evening or weekend work.
TravelThis position requires limited travel. Less than 5% each year.
Required Education & Experience- Associate s Degree from an accredited university or college.
- Valid and current Minnesota State Board of Dentistry Dental Assistant License required
- 3 years of experience in dentistry field working as a Dental Assistant
- Certification in CPR & BLS
- Knowledge of aseptic and sterilization techniques.
- Continuing Education to maintain licensure and stay updated on best practices and new technologies in dental care.
- Associate s Degree Preferred from an accredited college.
- X-Ray Certification (Preferred)
- Certification in CPR & BLS required
