The Senior Knits and Sweaters Designer will lead the design and development of knitwear and sweater assortments for Target’s owned brands, ensuring collections are trend-right, aligned with guest preferences, and commercially viable. This full-time, on-site role, located in Minneapolis, MN, involves conceptualizing seasonal themes, creating original designs and technical sketches, selecting yarns, stitches, and fabrications, and partnering with cross-functional teams to bring products to market.

The designer will collaborate closely with merchandising, product development, sourcing, and technical design partners to refine fits, manage sample reviews, and maintain quality and cost targets. Daily responsibilities include analyzing trend and market data, building cohesive line plans, presenting concepts to stakeholders, and providing design direction and feedback to more junior team members. The role also requires maintaining detailed documentation, meeting calendar milestones, and supporting continuous improvement of design and development processes.

• Demonstrated expertise in knitwear and sweater design, including concept development, illustration, and creation of technical flats.
• Strong understanding of yarns, gauges, stitches, and fabric construction, with the ability to translate design intent into manufacturable products.
• Proficiency in design tools (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, CAD systems) and familiarity with PLM or similar product lifecycle management platforms.
• Experience collaborating with merchandising, sourcing, and technical design teams to align on line architecture, fit, quality, and cost goals.
• Ability to research and interpret fashion trends, consumer insights, and competitive assortments to inform seasonal design strategies.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and storytelling skills to share concepts and design rationale with diverse stakeholders.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects and meet calendar-driven deadlines.
• Proven experience mentoring or providing guidance to other designers or team members is highly beneficial.
