Position: English Teacher, Middle School and High School - 1.0 FTE SY 25-26

The Brooklyn Center Community School (BCCS) District is seeking English Teacher, Middle School and High School applicants to join our team for the remainder of the  school year. BCCS is looking for positive, energetic applicants with a deep belief that all students can learn and the commitment and passion to provide these learning opportunities. The English Teacher performs difficult professional work teaching a broad range of subjects or specialized subject matter(s), teaching special needs students, motivating students to achieve maximum potential, and related work as apparent or assigned.

Work is performed under the general direction of the Principal. Continuous supervision is exercised over Educational Assistants.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials; develop individual programs for special‑needs students.
  • Translate lesson plans into learning experiences.
  • Integrate subject‑area content and technology.
  • Instruct students in area(s) of specialization and subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations.
  • Adapt teaching materials and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students.
  • Develop standards for critical analysis through group discussions.
  • Assess, identify and evaluate needs of students; provide instruction in individual or group sessions; establish and maintain standards of behavior.
  • Create and implement behavior modification programs for special‑needs students.
  • Administer standardized tests in accordance with established procedures.
  • Encourage students to think independently, develop and express original ideas.
  • Evaluate student progress; maintain appropriate records; prepare progress reports.
  • Communicate with students, student counselors and parents through conferences and other means.
  • Maintain professional competence through in‑service education and self‑selected professional books and instructional materials.
  • Select and requisition books and instructional materials.
  • Order instructional supplies and materials.
  • Participate in curriculum development programs, faculty committees and student activity sponsorship as required.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Essential Knowledge
  • Comprehensive knowledge of subject(s) taught
  • Thorough knowledge of elementary, secondary or special education principles, practices and procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of effective teaching principles and methodology
  • Thorough knowledge of school and district rules, regulations and procedures

Essential Skills

Ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior; ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students and parents.

Qualifications

MN Teaching licensure, 5-12 Communication Arts Literature. Previous experience working with diverse populations and urban school settings preferred.

Duty Days

197 duty days, includes 8 paid holidays! Duty days prorated based on reminder of 2025-26 school year.

Pay and Benefits

$48,500- $98,600 (based on education and experience), salary would be prorated for the remainder of the 2025-26 school year.
