Position
Peace Guide, Part-time / Emerson Dual Language Elementary School
Hours & Schedule20–23 hours per week. 20 hours per week at school; up to 3 additional hours after initial training for training, reporting, and meetings. Preferred schedule Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. A 4‑day work week may be considered. Nearly all hours will be scheduled from August to June with possible, infrequent hours in July as needed.
Compensation & Benefits- Pay Range: $19.20 – $22.06 per hour (Non‑exempt)
- Retirement Plan: 3% employer match (Peace Maker Minnesota retirement plan)
- Monthly Cell Phone Stipend: $18.00
- Mileage Reimbursement: standard IRS business rate for travel between home and primary work site; additional mileage reimbursed.

Peace Guide Services intervene in the lives of youth to help them learn to:
- Resolve problems and conflicts
- Build and sustain positive relationships
- Develop their self‑esteem
The main activity of the Peace Guide is to help youth develop skills in conflict resolution, positive relationships, and self‑esteem. Guides do this by:
- Conducting 1:1 sessions or mediating conflicts.
- Facilitating group sessions, small groups, classroom presentations, or instruction in a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum like Second Step.
- Embrace the philosophy that students do well if they can.
- Bilingual: fluent in English and Spanish.
- Strong interpersonal skills, building relationships with students, staff, and community.
- Observation skills to identify hidden conflicts.
- Calm and patience in high‑activity, high‑stress environments.
- Utilize the Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) approach.
- Work effectively with diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Clear, concise, detail‑oriented writing for documentation.
- Multitask and adapt in dynamic work environments.
- Work self‑directed, knowing when to involve others.
- Facilitate meetings with students and staff as needed.
- Computer skills for word processing, email, and reporting.
- Ability to work on‑site at school and occasionally at Peace Maker Minnesota office or other locations.

Six months or more of experience working directly with students (K‑8) in a structured setting with demonstrated ability in helping them solve problems or resolve conflicts, repair harm, and improve relationships.
Preferred Education & Experience- Exposure to or knowledge of CPS or similar problem‑solving approach.
- Fluency in Spanish for clear communication.
- Experience working in a school setting.
- Knowledge/application of restorative practices.
- Traverse outdoor playgrounds, lunchrooms, classrooms, and hallways.
- Adjust height by bending or leaning to interact with students.
- Possible periods of sitting to meet with students or student groups.
This position reports to the Peace Guide Services Manager at Peace Maker Minnesota, with a primary contact at the assigned school.
Responsibilities- Build trusting, supportive relationships with students and staff.
- Conduct 1:1 sessions or conversations to help problem‑solve or mediate conflicts.
- Conduct group sessions such as small groups, classroom presentations, or instruction in an SEL curriculum like Second Step.
- Build awareness among students and teachers of the Peace Guide’s role.
- Participate in Student Support Team (SST) or similar meetings.
- Teach conflict resolution skills and language for constructive responses to conflict and bullying.
- Help students navigate relationships and friendships by teaching positive relationship skills.
- Observe students in various settings to identify potential issues and prevent conflicts.
- Conduct follow‑up or check‑in meetings with teachers or staff.
- Serve as a resource on CPS, bullying prevention, and funding opportunities.
- Document daily sessions, number of students served, group sessions, and meaningful interactions.
- Complete a monthly report by the first full week of the following month.
- Ensure timely student feedback is collected and submitted with monthly report.
- Act as mandated reporter as per Minnesota Department of Human Services.
- Collect names and email addresses of school staff for staff surveys twice a year.
- Request and gather student and staff testimonials twice a year.
- Attend training and meetings at school as requested and approved, plus required training by Peace Maker Minnesota.
