Position Overview
This position will work a hybrid schedule of 4 days on campus and 1 day remote. It is responsible for managing day‑to‑day resources and services at the Coffman Memorial Union and the St. Paul Student Center Student Group Resource Centers and collaborating with other Student Unions and Activities staff to propose and implement additional services for student groups and community building within our spaces.
A key part of the role will be launching services and assessing function and processes. Responsibilities include providing support to general patrons of the Student Group Resource Center, student group support, promotion of our services, and student involvement opportunities. The position reports to the Student Group Services – Program Manager.
Visa Language: This position is not eligible for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship. This position does not offer a STEM OPT/CPT training program.
Duties & Responsibilities- Oversee the planning, implementation, and operations of the Student Group Resource Center for Coffman Memorial Union and St. Paul Campus.
- Identify goals and opportunities for additional student support that align with SUA's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commitments.
- Plan, forecast, monitor, and allocate an annual budget in excess of $97,000 for the operation of the Student Group Resource Center.
- Manage ongoing conversations around meeting the needs of diverse student and patron populations.
- Develop plans and strategies to enhance a sense of belonging and an inclusive student experience for diverse populations.
- Manage a system for tracking and organizing student group supply inventory.
- Work with colleagues in Student Unions & Activities to offer programs, resources, and services to support an inclusive and diverse University community, including students, guests, staff, and faculty.
- Develop instructions and educational materials in event planning and resource management for student group leaders and advisors.
- Stay current on event needs and best practices as they relate to college student programming and venue management.
- Work with supervisor on on‑call shifts for special events.
- Oversee the request, billing, and reconciliation processes for resource center supplies.
- Assess resource usage and trends to identify changes to processes, products, or services to best meet student group needs.
- Supervise and support up to 15 entry‑level student employees in the staffing and management of the Student Group Resource Center's operations.
- Guide and coach student employees to respond to client and patron questions and needs. Provide opportunities and assistance for students to develop leadership skills, organizational skills, communication practices, and experiences working on teams and with a diverse group of people.
- Supervise, support, and develop up to 4 student leaders in intermediate and advanced level positions.
- Utilize inclusive practices to recruit, train, and retain student employees.
- Produce and distribute email communications aimed at increasing departmental awareness of the Student Group Resource Center services and opportunities.
- Collaborate with the Marketing department to plan and implement promotions, way finding, signage, etc.
- Develop ongoing communication practices and expectations between student employees and student group leaders.
- Assist in student outreach and community‑building efforts through tabling, departmental partnerships, and workshop facilitation.
- Continue building community with the 13 student organizations with space on the 2nd floor of Coffman Memorial Union, including 3 recognized student governing organizations, the University of Minnesota Commuter Connection, and 9 cultural centers.
- Oversee the Make Your Mark initiative and assist with other student group promotional opportunities.
- Oversee the student group digital posting process throughout the Coffman Memorial Union and St. Paul Student Center.
- Collaborate with the Student Group Services including facilitating student group violation meetings.
