Position: Para educator Special Education  2026-27

Full-Time 184 days/6.5 hrs/day

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream, resource room, or center-based settings.
  • Manage behavior (redirecting, calming, or removing a disruptive student from the classroom).
  • Monitor and record student progress in instructional areas such as academics, daily living skills, dressing, grooming, social skills, etc.
  • Manage physical needs, including toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, transporting students in wheelchairs, etc.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Personal Care Assistant certification completed within 30 days of start date.
  • Completed 60 semester or 90 quarter credits, or obtained an associate degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution, or passed the Para Educator or Para Pro exam (documentation required).
  • Good communication, interpersonal and recordkeeping skills.
  • Ability/desire to work with technology and computers.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff; supervise students; take direction; maintain regular attendance.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds and perform position responsibilities, including physical tasks such as toileting, feeding, self‑care procedures, behavioral management, maintaining student data, handling materials, and working with students who may display aggressive or inappropriate behavior.
  • Must be physically able to work in the building.
Rate of Pay
  • $20.00/hour to $23.95/hour (DOQ with K‑12 experience).
  • $21.15/hour to $25.10/hour with AA/AAS degree or 60 semester/90 quarter credits from a regionally accredited institution, DOQ with K‑12 experience.
  • $22.00/hour to $25.95/hour with BA degree from a regionally accredited institution, DOQ with K‑12 experience.
  • Special Ed Paras serving Center‑based students and classrooms 50 percent or more of their time receive an additional $0.50 per hour.
  • Special Ed Paras at Two Rivers Transition Program or River Trail Learning Center receive an additional $1.00 per hour.
