Position: Teaching Specialist/Lecturer - FY 26 Continuous Recruitment (ICD)

Position Overview

The Institute of Child Development, College of Education and Human Development, continually accepts resumes for teaching positions that may open up during the academic year or summer session. Applications are reviewed as openings occur, and individual applicants are invited to interview when their skills or areas of expertise match a specific opening. Typically, these appointments are made semester by semester and employment is contingent on the course meeting its enrollment target.

This posting is designed to establish a “pool” of instructors. Applicants will be selected from this pool on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. Applications will not be acknowledged but will be reviewed when such openings occur throughout the academic year.

These are temporary, non-tenured, Academic Professional and Administrative (P&A) positions as Teaching Specialist or Lecturer, paid on a per course basis for the Institute of Child Development-Department of Child Psychology (CPsy) at the University of Minnesota. Coursework and research activities focus primarily on the central cognitive, social, emotional, and psychological processes that underlie the development of infants, children, and youth.

This position is based on campus. Per UMN policy, work may be done remotely when appropriate and approved by your manager.

Job Responsibilities

Teaching/Instruction (90%)

  • Teach assigned in-person or online course at an undergraduate or graduate level on course topics such as infant/adolescent development, cognitive development, language development, social and emotional development, disabilities and development, etc.
  • Prepare course materials including syllabus
  • Attend all class meetings
  • Grade student materials including exams, papers, presentations, and final exams.
  • Submit grades.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Student Advising (10%)

  • Respond to student inquiries via email, phone, or in person.
  • Be available for scheduled office hours.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree relevant to the teaching assignment required for appointment as Teaching Specialist (job code 9754).
  • Doctorate or terminal degree relevant to the teaching assignment required for appointment as Lecturer (job code 9753).
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with people from a variety of communities, backgrounds, and identities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous teaching experience.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: The salary range for this position is $3,700 per credit. Final salary offers are dependent on the candidate's experience, skills, and internal equity within the department.

Time Appointment: 25%

Position Type: Temporary
