The Green Tech Lead Instructor and Manager provides leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for the Green Tech program. The Manager ensures the successful implementation of after‑school and summer programming that focuses on STEM grounded in indigenous values and lifeways, sustainability, and workforce development for Native American youth. The Manager is also responsible for assessing outcomes, supervising a Science Education Specialist, junior staff, and a Minnesota Green Corps member, and managing community partnerships.
A strong technical background, combined with instructional design, curriculum development, communication, leadership skills, and a deep understanding of systems thinking as it relates to environmental and Native issues, is essential for this position.
The Lead Instructor and Manager promotes healthy development of American Indian youth to ensure the accomplishment of goals, objectives, and outcomes as required by logic models and evaluation of program. This position reports to the Sr. Director of Organizational Effectiveness and Management.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProgram Planning & Delivery
- Create Annual Plan for 4 cohorts (4 seasons) and deliver instruction that includes hands‑on projects, technology‑assisted learning, and STEM exploration weaved together with cultural teachings during after‑school and summer sessions to meet goals and objectives required by grants, contracts, and organizational values.
- Oversee program operations, scheduling, logistics, and resource and budget management.
- Collaborate with the program team to coordinate and create cohort activities and lessons.
- Ensure the design, implementation, and delivery of any contracted services that are a part of cohorts.
- Monitor and assess program quality and implement improvement strategies.
- Maintain workshop equipment and ensure a detailed inventory.
Curriculum Development & Partnerships
- Collaborate with local career and sustainable STEM education partners, industry professionals, and scientists to develop pertinent curriculum and career pathways for students.
- Develop seasonally relevant curriculum in partnership with program staff, partners, and contractors.
- Recruit professionals to present to youth on sustainable STEM topics and careers.
- Identify community partners, elders, and knowledge holders to bring in for cultural teachings and knowledge sharing.
Community Group involvement/representation
- Represent Migizi and the Green Tech program in relevant professional and community spaces, such as the Clean Heat Coalition, Indigenous Food Network, and more.
- Find new community partners to engage in environmental, STEM, and cultural spaces.
Youth Development & Family Engagement
- Utilize Individual Learning Plans for youth in the program to track academic, cultural, and Green Tech goals each cohort.
- Support youth in the pursuit of their academic, social, economic, and cultural goals.
- Build meaningful relationships with youth and serve as a positive mentor, role model, and advocate.
- Promote youth leadership by providing opportunities for decision‑making, peer mentoring, and community engagement.
- Ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants.
- Communicate as required with families, parents, or guardians of youth served.
Staff Supervision & Leadership
- Manage and train Science Education Specialist and junior staff by building up their leadership skills, identifying professional development opportunities, and mentoring them through holistic youth development principles.
- Manage a Minnesota Green Corps Member through their service term projects at Migizi (shared responsibility).
Program Evaluation, Reporting, & Compliance
- Participate in the collection of data, story collection, and assessing outcomes through outcome tracker, logic models, evaluation surveys, and regular meetings to learn, celebrate, and/or redefine strategies.
- Maintain timely and accurate program records and be responsible for monthly reports and any reporting required.
