Job SummaryYMCA Beacons School Success programs engage youth as leaders and learners by transforming schools into active youth centers after school and in the summer. The program offers free, high‑quality educational, recreational, and leadership development activities for kindergarten‑12th grade youth and their families at our eight Beacons School Success centers located in neighborhoods across Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Richfield.
Responsibilities- Assist in facilitating after‑school and summer programming as part of a dedicated team.
- Support event planning and special programs as required by supervisor.
- Provide a high level of customer service to youth, families, community partners, and school staff.
- Foster a safe and respectful environment within a diverse community of youth, families, volunteers, and partner agencies, following all YMCA Youth Development best practices and guidelines.
This position reports to the Beacons School Success Sr. Coordinator, who reports to the Beacons School Success Program Director. The role requires regular interaction with youth, families, and school staff from diverse backgrounds.
QualificationsRequired:
- Minimum age of 14.
- Willingness to work with diverse populations.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and mediation skills.
Preferred:
- Specialized skills to teach youth (e.g., dance, music, computer skills, art, sports).
- Must be able to move throughout a school building regularly during the day.
- Must be able to actively participate in youth games and activities.
- Work environments range from quiet work areas to busy, noisy indoor and outdoor spaces with several groups talking concurrently.
- May be exposed to verbal outbursts, physical actions, or bodily fluids as part of the environment.
- Perform all physical aspects of the position, including moving around, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Ability to recognize and react calmly and effectively in hazardous or dangerous situations.
